As the title says really. How do you go about contacting magazines etc with a view to getting articles published?

Would any Haymarket Bods have any advice?

Thanks in advance people.

I once was commissioned to write an article for Cars and Car Conversions. Got paid £350, but that was in 1993.

I had been talking to Martin Sharp, the editor and he asked me to do it. Like most things in life, its not what you know, its who.

I did a bit for MN and Autosport for several years and had stuff printed since then too, but not as often as I used to.

What sort of stuff are you looking at writing, features or race reporting?

I haven't, but someone on here, Muz Wez (Mark Werrell) is a commentator for the Dunlop Racing series, he also does the voice-overs on Motors TV.

I work for a motorsport photo agency supplying magazines - PM what you want to know and I might be able to help you out.

I am looking at doing features really. Probably more towards the historic side of things.

Mike, I will PM you soon. Cheers.

From a historic point of view, Motorsport Magazine is probably the best one to aim for. Some very good writing in there.

That's kinda what I'm aiming at. I get the feeling (as was mentioned above) that you have to have a lot of contacts to get anywhere, for research or publishing.

I have had a variety of articles published both here in the UK and abroad, usually in the business sections of the media about the role of sponsorship within motorsport and technology. You either need to speak to the journalists directly or start writing your pown pieces for magazines and trade journals before going directly to publishers and editors.

Thanks to everyone who replied, including those who got in touch with me via PM.

Sorry to be a pain, but is there any chance that Quick Nick could resend his email? I seem to have deleted it by mistake amongst all of the facebook notifications.

Cheers. smile
