2010 Monaco GP

Hi, I'm planning a trip to see the Monaco GP with my wife in May for my birthday. I'm after any info you can give me. We are planning to go in our motorhome and stay in a campsite on the south coast, either to the west or east of Monaco. My plan is to get the train in on race day, is this feasible?
I need info on the best place to book tickets, the best stand to watch from etc. Any help on the above plus any near campsites will be appreciated. Sorry for all the questions, but I want get get it right as it may be the only time we go and watch the race.

This is a must-do for any F1 fan! You’ll love it!
However, it’s more about the “experience” rather than spectating a motor race which, to be frank, is pants.
We had seats opposite the pits thinking we’d get a good view of the stops (which you don’t really) – good for star spotting and that’s about it. In retrospect, we should have gone for seats by the swimming pool.
You can’t wander round as you can at Silverstone. That said, I went for a wee in the loos under the stand and behind the bogs, I found a TV Camera box. Stood on that and watched them come round the swimming pool complex which was mesmerising.
Don’t let this put you off though. It’s a fabulous experience and half an hour after the flag, you’re pretty much free to wander about anywhere you like – including the marina walkways.
Can’t help you with transport in.

We went about 3 years ago and loved it.
We booked the grandstand tickets direct from the ACM then used a package for flights and hotel (stayed in Nice - coach in and back both days, worked very well)
For qualifying we were in a stand overlooking part of the pits and the track between the swimming pool and Rascasse (T1 I think), which seemed good; had view of the pits, the cars coming out of the swimming pool and a screen close by. For the race on Sunday we were in one of stands looking out on the harbour (K3, 4 or 5, something round there) so could see some of the run down from the tunnel, to the corner in front of us (lost the cars immediately in front as they went under the front of the stand!) then saw them going into the start of the swimming pool. Could also see a little of the cars going up the hill towards casino square. All of which sounds like it was a better stand than on Saturday; but; it is a vast grandstand area which has an appalling lack of facilities (at a guess less than a dozen portaloos for a stand of 10,000+ seats!) also, if you wanted to get some food - buy your baguette early! you might even have a choice of what to have in it too!
As others have said, wonderful experience and weekend, but don't expect a great view of the race itself!

I've had seats in K stand near to the swimming pool and looking out onto the harbour and also had seats in Casino Square. The squares great for taking in the whole ambience of the place but you don't get to see much as the cars go through so quickly. As for traveling in I can't help much as I've always stayed on site.

From personal experience, get a grandstand seat that is opposite a big screen otherwise you won't have a clue what is happening - Casino Square is quite good for this!
I'm not sure about camping facilities - I've always stayed in Cap D'ail which is only a couple of km away - but there are excellent bus and train services along the coast which drop you right into the heart of Monaco.
