And to think I was beginning to warm to Hamilton 
He makes Eddie Irvine look like a shrinking violet.
So funny reading this, especially if you remember both Hamilton and Alonso had 109 points, and Hamilton had 4 wins to Alonso's 3. Kimi got 110 points - following Hamilton's logic that must mean he comprenhensively destroyed both Hamilton and Alonso.
JV beat Schumacher in his first year (albeit in different cars), and got WDC in his second year. Funny how people forget about JV when speaking about Hamilton, especially considering their post WDC careers now seem to be mirroring each other (even down to the pop star girlfriends).

It sounds to me like a pre-season bit of hype.
I’m no big Hamilton fan but I’ve got to say that his assessment of his first season is not inaccurate. He beat a double WDC in an identical car.
He did come into the sport at a run and oh so narrowly was beaten. And then, just to show it wasn’t a fluke, he was successful the following year.
I’d be proud of such a performance. And I too would have been sickened by the results of the last couple of races.
I don’t see LH’s post WDC year being in any way similar to JV’s. LH appeared to work hard on the McLaren and brought it up to being the class of the field from a very low beginning. And he seemed to relish the challenge.
And on the subject of JV, whilst he might have beaten MS in his first season, he couldn’t beat Hill.
Some of Head’s comments about JV in his championship year were very revealing. He did not seem to me to be a big fan of their driver.
LH’s fight with Button will be the highlight of the season. And then there’s Alonso/Massa, and MS and . . . well, let’s not get carried away into the realms of fantasy.
I have no particular affiliations to any driver. There are a couple I do not like but I see no reason for dropping |LH into that group just on the strength of this article.
As a floating voter if you will, I am really excited by what’s on offer for 2010.

JV reaped the benefits of a car honed since 1993 by Hill and Prost. Schumacher was in a s
tbox Ferrari designed in Woking and built at 4.55 on a Friday afternoon on the production line at Arese. Hardly a relevant comparison. And JV left the pop star g/f lifestyle behind him...but he was divorced this year, so who knows what might happen?Having said that, I admire JV's driving style - wish there were more drivers out there prepared to drive the wheels (literally) off the car...
Isn't the Hamilton bashing getting a bit old now? he is no different to any other driver.
All drivers have total self belief and believe they can beat anyone else who happens to turn up on the grid, when they don't beat someone they all have a catalogue of excuses why.
Being arrogant is part of their psyche..

Indeed.1) An absolute fighter. Never afraid to go for an overtake, and not afraid to bin it while trying.
2) Qualifying a slow car well above its station somehow, then being impossible to pass (and a bit slow) in the race.
I think Lewis is exaggerating about his dominance in 2007, but he did do a fantastic job as a rookie against Alonso. I also think that the whole spy scandal thing was a big distraction for the whole McLaren team, and without that, it would have been Alonso or Hamilton's title.
I still think Hamilton's the most likely of the current bunch to become a stats king, and is the most likely, in twenty years time, to be remembered alongside Senna, Scummy, Mansell, Lauda and the rest. He's definitely no Jim Clark off the track though

I never understand the comparisons with JV. JV came from what was at the time a faster, far more competitive and more varied championship. When Mansell went to Indycars he was classed as a rookie too, which was fair enough given he was going to racing on ovals for the first time. In short, Mansell was more of a rookie than JV was.
LH on the other hand came up the ladder in the conventional manner and won at every step up, but its never been done before in that manner and i don't think we'll see it again.
All top sportsmen are extremely self confident, to a degree that many of us mortals would find arrogant. If people find this distasteful then i really don't know why they watch sport.

Exactly, thats why they're there. A conventional manner? What a joke. No-one, before or since, has had such a hugely privileged route through motorsport, and he never won a Championship first shot until GP2.
