Does anyone work for an F1 team?

If so, what sort of positions are a new team going to be looking for to get their show on the road?

The new guys are obviously going to have their engineers and designers on board, but what about hospitality, finance etc..

What jobs are essential and what they'll be recruiting for just prior to the start of the season?

As it stands i'm an accountant, but I have a feeling those jobs will already be taken care of.

Anything else they might want me for?

if it is anything like the sector I work in - anything non-core business will probably be outsourced.....particularly with budget caps for teams coming in.

Sorry, serious answer - if you have a background in business development or generating sponsorship then this will help. As a pure accountant, most teams have some inhouse for good governance, especially those that have a broader business (eg McLaren).

Recruitment would probably be anonymous via a recruitment company, as generally the companies want people who are dispassionate about the sport so that they aren't emotionally driven by their decisions but focus purely on the numbers.

I know one of the guys who was the lead finance/accountant for Aston Martin Racing - these were his views - it was viewed as a strength that he had no interest in motorsport.

A lot will already have been recruited.

I would get onto google and try and hunt out a contact, get an e-mail and fire this off. Do it for current teams, you'll find that they still recruit and have bigger accounting depts.

Also have a look for jobs in your field in those areas. F1 teams are in odd areas so some of the time you can find them on Moster etc and it's obvious who it is.

That was what I was looking at to be honest, but didn't see any point in applying for a position that's likely been filled, hence asking what jobs are likely left till a bit later, for when they're actually going to and from places.

Places come and go all the time and they will still be shaping the departments. You need to apply everywhere you can. I believe bonuses are paid in F1 usually around the March time so a lot of people leave then when they've got their cash!

Autosport is handy for F1 specific roles, less good for IT/Accounting etc. Most teams seem to get people in from other industries for those roles, though not always. A couple of the guys at your place in IT have worked for other teams.

Agree 100% on the "don't piss people off" part.

My Insight.

(sorry I didnt read all the posts) So this might not be that relevant.

I worked for a company that do work for f1 teams.

As far As I'm aware they may advertise for some roles, but most of the guy's with the important jobs are head hunted.

I know of a few people who were basicly just asked how much would it cost for them to leave a company abroad to come and work for a company in England.

I think any Newbie to motorsport will find it very hard to find a job in top level motorsport, especially with little expierence (despite maybe doing a bit here and there)-

When I worked track side at factory club level, there is not time to help people learn and every one is busy - So you need to hit the ground running.

I think it must be hard to trust any one - without say several years at a job because mistakes can mean lives in some cases - fuel, and hot exhausts, wheels nuts - well the list is endless.

I know of one Guy who was taken on buy a big team years back and trained - but with sponsorship being cut - team members are being asked to do more etc.... and they usually work on contracts and it seem there are plenty of guys /experts willing to move from team to team if neccessary.

I have just read the op again - SORRY not that relevant to accounting - thought I'd leave it posted incase any one wants to read it.

Look on the teams website..That is how I got my job with Mclaren.
If you have a degree in marketing or engineering would help. When we advertised a similar position to mine we got applications from all over the world and my job is far from glamourous or well paid..
