Is it worth going to the Turkish GP? I don't mean location and weather etc, I mean is it worth it from an F1 fans point of view? I have been to Silverstone and Monaco already will be doing Melbourne in 2011.

The Turkish GP is conveniently on the same day as my birthday hence the choice.

Any advice on this would be greatly received.

Me and the wife went last year and in my opinion there are two ways to look at it.

1) Going to pretty much any F1 race is brilliant - I could listen to them all day long. Therefore, if you're an F1 nut, you'll have a good time. We had great seats, the first row and were able to shout out and get waves from the BBC crew and a few of the drivers.

2) The locals aren’t into the F1 at all; t the point that we had one guy ask us why we bothered as you could watch it on TV. It's not an exciting race. The atmosphere in rather empty as are the stands. The transport links worked well though. But the track is out in the middle of nowhere and is only used for the F1. It was the worst race I’ve been to in terms of off track activities.

To sum up and quote Alonso when asked what he thought of the Turkish race- "I'll know everyone of my fans by the end of the weekend' - or something like that. He got into a bit of trouble with local press for that one.

I would also say that you can't ignore the fact that Istanbul is a fantastic city and I'll return there, just not for the race.

Yer, thats what I thought it would be like - to be honest, its more of a long weekend in Istanbul that just so happens to have a GP race on the Sunday to go to.

Dam shame Monaco has slipped to mid May this year as now my birthday GP is not so glamorous ;-)

In that case I think you should go. You'll have a great time in the city itself and get to watch a GP... perfect Birthday weekend.

Me and few mates are thinking about going to the Turkish or Hungarian GP. Simply because it's such a cheap F1 weekend. There's about 4-5 of us up for it and they're all a good laugh so even if it's not busy we'll definatly have a great weekend.
