Sutil: Modern F1 tracks are boring

I agree AND I include Silverstone in this. I think, as a spectator, that Brands Hatch would be more exciting, all the ups and downs etc. Also, having driven both (full GP circuits too), I found initially that SS was OK as it was "safe" but BH was far scarier (how fast can you really take Paddock Hill corner? etc.) but more something to master and a better thrill if you "have a go".

Anyway, I bet most people here like Spa a lot as it has "dangerous" elements, mainly Eau Rouge where it's all about balls and anything can happen.

Are any "new" tracks anything other than flat? Where are the hilly circuits?

I like F1 but there are many races I could easily miss and not care too much but I will never miss watching Spa, Brazil etc. Heck, I miss Magny Cours as well.

Good stuff.

Safety is key, but I dont why all new circuits are flat car parks, with painted kurbs.

Spa, Brands, Laguna (non F1), and the old Hockenheim (spelling!) are excellent.

Depends on if you mean boring to drive or boring to spectate at.

Silverstone is fantastic to drive on. However, you can't see too much from most locations due to the nature of the circuit - so possibly a little less interesting to spectate than other circuits.

In anything other than F1, even the Champ Cars when they came over proved Brands Hatch was dull for fast open wheelers.

Brands hatch is far to narrow for open wheel racing, apart from the smaller F. Renault, F. BMW etc...

...and it's been emaciated since I raced there.

Honestly though, I can't see modern F1 cars racing there, it would be worse than Monaco for overtaking. A shame because I agree, it's a great circuit.

suits me if the super fast stuff stays away from BRands Hatch and the like.

Look at how they have fked up Donny trying to make it fit for F1.

Fundamentally - those smaller circuits work much better with non open wheel racing (except maybe FF)

Keep F1 and the like to tracks that have massive run off and all that jazz.

I'm happy with Donny, Cadwell, Brands, Oulton, Mallory etc etc being kept for the rest of us mortals!

The BTCC race that day was phenomenal - Warren Hughes was amazing. Unfortunately the Champ Car race was a total procession. Once you'd got over the incredible pace down towards Paddock Hill, it wasn't too interesting. I enjoyed the Rockingham races far more as a spectator - that grandstand finish between Brack and de Ferran was outstanding in 2001.

On the plus side re modern circuits, at least Montreal is back - that will usually throw up some fun. The modern, sanitised circuits (I call them autodromes) are phenomenally tedious, but what can you say about them which hasn't been said before? None of us like them, but the bigwigs do and they are the important ones, not us geeks. We will watch no matter what; the CEOs of big corporate companies who provide the sponsorship will not.
