Well we are here...Dubai 24 hours has arrived!!!! I managed to get down to the Autodrome just after another gorgeous sunset, just in time for the start of night practice.

As you can imagine night practice is a vital aspect of 24 hours endurance racing and if the session in darkness this evening at Dubai Autodrome is anything to go by then Porsche teams, including last years winning outfit Land Motorsport, are looking potent. Now...If you think that at least 12 hours of the race will be held under darkness you can get the picture.

Lots more tomorrow....

Great pics.
Are there any highlights on tv anywhere?
I've had a look in the tv mag but can't see anything.

Great shots. Shame it's not televised, as I love endurance races.

Thanks thumbup,

I've had a look at motors in the tv guide and there has been something called the asian festival of speed that has been on for a while, things such as formula bmw, porsche supercup etc, so i don't know if it will be tucked away amongst that lot.

Just got home and I'm totally knackered. Didn't sleep from breakfast time on Friday 'till 11 on Saturday night - I was driving with Jaco's Paddock Sport and although we were running a VLN class car (std M3 apart from enduro pads and suspension suited for the 'ring) we had a great time - none of the other drivers had done a 24 hour of any type, so just finishing was a real achievement. A big thanks to all the UK marshals who kept us safe, and gave me a lift to the circuit on Thursday....

Edited to add - If you have any pics of our car (No 42) let me know....

I was there with the Brunswick Aston Martin Vantage #120.
We had an eventful race with 2 broken driveshafts, alternator failure, battery failure and several punctures after driving over debris from other cars.

Only had 20 minutes sleep and the race flew past.

Massive engine fire from what was possibly a porsche, parked it at the end of the pitlane right next to the fuel tanks for the refuelling station - car was destroyed, massive fireball - I hope the driver hopped out quick, I can't recall hearing anything about the driver on the tannoy.

I can be spotted here at 1m 12s taking the rear wheel off the Aston after it came in with a puncture, the liner had melted from the heat of the punctured tyre so it was cut out and the car sent on its way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x3bJmygbNc

I was on marshal's post 4, and quickly moved up to 3 when the no.3 Porsche was burning. (pretty much directly opposite).

It was'nt close to the refeulling at all, not really. Shame for the crew, they were running 3rd at the time.

I think the event is a real winter antidote, it just gets better & better.

PS Hi DJ.

Ok, I was all the way down at 6a and we were told the fuel tanks were there, couldn't see a great deal to be honest so glad to be corrected.

Well done to the UK marshalls, you did a great job.
