Whilst a lot of what the old duffer says is just grandstanding I've got to say that his latest suggestion seems to have a lot going for it, at least on first look. I'll give it a think.

In an hilarious oversight, Bernie reckoned that this season is unique in living memory as it has four WDCs in the running. Just like 1999.

I'm getting a bit worried as everyone (including me I have to admit) is saying how great 2010 will be. Tempting fate?

I guess we want our new questions to remain unanswered for a while, to prolong the interest.

Will Schumi be in a competitive car? Will he struggle getting back up to speed? Will Hamilton beat Button in every session? Will Alonso dominate Massa? Will the new teams be competitive? Will Red Bull be the quickest, or have Ferrari and McLaren caught up?

If, after the first couple of races, the questions have all been emphatically answered, then 2010 may be a disappointment.

Or he could be relying on the fact that of the billions of F1 viewers, the vast bulk will struggle to rememeber who the competing former/current WDC's are this year, let alone last.

You think that short-cuts are a good idea? You're having a laugh....

Apart from the obvious danger of a car going off or coming back onto the racing line in a driver's blind spot how the hell is that going to be regulated?

'Oh sorry I had to use the short cut more than my alloted 5 times because....(insert BS excuse here)' Cue that's OK Mr Schumacher or any Ferrari driver and that's ban/disqualification Mr Hamilton, Button etc!!!!

Why don't they just sort out the aerodynamics? Clean bodies, no little winglets tacked on here and there, no shark fin airboxes, no more than two surfaces to comprise a front and rear wing then they'll actually be able to overtake each other on the track... or is that too radical a suggestion?

It is unlikely that aerodynamics will ever be eliminated from F1. Wings are, after all, merely part of it. Every surface on the car has some aerodynamic function.

Bernie's suggestion is approaching the problem from a different angle. With turbulent air and dusty off-line approaches, the classic overtaking place, corners, are difficult to use. So why not change the corners? The proposals are vague, just suggestions in fact, so there is a lot of flexibility in them.

I agree there are some problems but then there are problems with the current system. Most solutions cost. All you have to work out is whether they are value for money.
