One of the things that makes me doubt them is the recent release on their design and proudly stating they are the only new team designing their own gearbox. Given even experienced teams can c*ck that up I would have thought that it would be prudent to start with a bought in unit - in fact the new guys could have clubbed together for this since they are also all using the same engine!
I actually hope I'm wrong, as I previously had a lot of time for Peter Windsor. But what would be an utter shock is if they actually lived up to their own hype and 'proved' US motorsport engineering was superior to European!

hing and politics in F1 sometimes. They might be euro-snobbed out of F1 before they're up to speed. While I appreciate their press releases are a bit over the top, that is all an effort to generate as much publicity as possible for the team, if they came out all meek and said, 'we expect to have a tough first season, realistically the best we can expect is to be as quick as the other new teams', it wouldn't get the same coverage.
There is a lot of potential for as yet untapped sponsorship in America, a lot of Global but essentially American companies, with lots of cash who would love to be associated with F1, Coca-Cola, Budweiser etc... if they can land one of those to back the team and if they have half the talent they claim to have then they should be fine. Although I do fully expect them to be around the back of the grid during their first season.

Whilst I wish them the best of luck, I can’t see them lasting the year, if only because the F1 of 2010 is going to be different from the one they were promised by Smax (biased towards budget limited cosworth powered teams)

I'm sure that the USA does have the knowledge, ingenuity and drive to succeed in F1. Having said that, I don't think that this lot will make it. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe there are too many overtones (as mentioned above) of the BAR launch and other wonders that never were. Maybe it is the attitude of knock everything else to make us seem better.

Indeed. Had one of those guys said "You know what. We fancy a stab at the 2010 F1 season. See you there wink wink" I'd be wondering about a bet on them finishing in the top 5.Munter said:

I think they'll scrape onto the grid in Bahrain with no testing and spend most of the event doing install laps and fixing problems in the garage. Essentially, a test session, but am I right in thinking that the teams are contractually obliged to enter every race? I know the new teams have to make the first few races to receive the $10m payment from Bernie. It's what happens after that that's the worry.
I think of all the new teams, Virgin (Manor) are already a fully operational race team and have two decent drivers, so I expect them on the grid and "race ready". Same with Campos to an extent, apart from the drivers and funding by the sounds of it, but they should make it to the first race. Lotus have drivers and funding largely tied up and the car is in progress apparently. USF1... no sponsors, no drivers, no operational race crew (or none that's they've publicised), just a few designers, machinery and a nose cone test is all I've seen so far.
