Hold on. Alonso's not allowed to drive that car. Even Rossi had to drive a 2008 car so as not to clash with the testing ban. So How can Ferrari be running a 2009 car? Maybe a photoshop job?

Possibly - though didn't a team/driver in the summer manage to test one of their cars using extremely hard compound tyres for 'promotional purposes'?

Seems it is true, according to Autosport. and Massa having a go in the 2008 car that Rossi drove. Ferrari getting some pay back for maintaing all those old cars!

What would the tone of this thread be if this was M Sch? Allegations of cheating perhaps?

The mirror supports are interesting. Considering one of the rule changes for 2009 was meant to get rid of all the aero factors away from the main tub Ferrari (and probably others) have really stretched a point by making such shapely supports for the mirrors, not considering the fact that their positioning must make them pretty unusable at race speeds.

Within the letter but not the spirit of the rules I guess.

Very interesting point actually, Alonso was one of the main drivers to insist to mclaren/renault to have trad inboard mirrors as the outboard mirrors put areo over usefullness, so it'll be interesting to see what ferrari do.

I vaguely remember Williams having a pop about them early in the year last season, but dropped it before it got to the point of an actual hearing. As with the double-diffusers, everyone ended up with them by the end of the year

Quite a few teams use simple steering wheels like this one for maneuvering round garages etc, saves the real ones getting damaged

FIA Sporting Regulations said:

22.1 a) Track testing shall be considered any track running time undertaken by a competitor entered in the Championship with the exception of :
i) promotional or demonstration events carried out using tyres provided specifically for this purpose by the appointed supplier ;

no mention of speed limits or straight lines there... just 'tyres provided specifically for this purpose', so presumably ones that are so different from race tyres there is no value in assessing the performance.
