Corsa B Power Steering? Anyone tried it on a Tuscan?

How much of an arse would this be to fit on my Tuscan? Bearing in mind I have that weird column... I guess the column would have to be cut and some sort of connector fittd to the end right? Then some sort of mounting plate would need to be made up. Worth a punt while its all in pieces?

Tuscans are for he-men, particularly those with big wheels and loads of camber.
When I drove Phils/now Keefs...I was knacked after 10 laps!!!!
I've driven both several times and finger tip steering/precision from my griff is MUCH better.

Im MR H on that one, If you've got a manual column in the car already its a lot of work to change it... you need to change everything between the steering wheel and the rack. In a 20 min race i've never noticed it being an issue, but can see how it will become hard work after much more than 20 mins. Hence the corsa column going in the sag ( and the fact I dont have a column)
IIRC having a power column/rack in a sprint tuscan does mean you can run a lot more castor.

Well I'd like to give myself options; I'm sure I won't be running it in any 24 hour races or anything but as I progress with the car, I'd like to have the capability of doing longer races in other series perhaps when I've got used to the car and run it for a season or so. Also, I'm running 11" rears and I think 9" or 10" fronts (forget which), so it might be a bit on the heavy side anyway. The thing is that the car is in quite a few bits at the moment and I've yet to make up the wiring loom etc. Plus it's about to have a dashboard bar put into the cage, so this could be made to accomodate a power column mount. So if it is easier to do now than later then I'd rather do it now, so I can put it in neatly and save arsing about later.. Even if it means taking a bit longer getting it running.

The aftermarket controllers certainly adjust the assistance, this is controlled by a variable resistor in the add on controller so maybe thats what they are referring too. probably depends a bit on the control unit you buy there are quite a few out there... Leigh put one on his taz and he may have had some isssues with sensitivity IIRC.
The corsa sensitivity is set by road speed and engine speed so the add on box creates signals to mimic them. IIRC the micra column works of only speed so can be made speed sensitive.

In theory then, surely the Corsa rack could also be speed controlled? You would just need to mimmic a constant engine speed signal and vary the road speed signal. Actually its probably a whole lot more complicated than that but Im sure it's doable by a leccy engineer.
according to the electronics guys i've spoken to, the way they have done it is difficult to reproduce which is why non of the kits do it...Its not a constant engine speed, its a 3d map of rpm against road speed. if you want speed sensitivity use the micra one is the advice i was given.

Thanks Andy, I'm actually watching one of those and was going to pick one up when I do the loom. I got the Corsa 'C' column in the end as it has a newer design motor than the 'B' and has adjustable steering wheel height.
One thing I'm slightly not sure about though is how much power it draws, and whether or not my alternator will be up to it? I'll also be running diff and gearbox oil pumps as well as the usual stuff... How does one work this out? Just count the amps and add a bit? What would the TVR alternator be outputting? My engine started life as a road engine so it probably has the same alternator as a Cerbera. I'll check when I get the car back at the weekend though.

As an aside the race and road AJP8's use the same alternator, which from memory is a hulking great land rover / Lucas unit with an output > 100 amps
As another aside, mount your diff oil cooler in the air flow at the front of the car, and beware the plastic bodied oil pumps - I'm told they melt. We use a small oil pump with brass helical gears sourced from the USA, used on drag bikes. Look up RB Racing on t'interweb. And use a pre pump in line filter too....
