I am hugely surprised and slightly concerned to see Remus is for sale, following 50 years in the hands of the Lindsay family. With Romulous having disappeared from view and Hannuman only making rare public appearances, to see an ex White Mouse car racing is very special. Ludovic Lindsay's annual and heroic battle with Ure, Ott, Mac, Gillies et al at Goodwood is a seasonal highlight for me. I hope the car ends up in the hands of a collector who wishes to see this most dignified of competition machines racing the way Prince Bira would wish. It was just amazing to see JYS demonstrating Remus with some verve at Goodwood this year - what an amazing combination.

About as amazing as Jim Clark testing it at Rouen. 
Remus was very much part of my father indoctrinating me into vintage motor racing. Watching Patrick Lindsay driving with amazing attack in his battles with David Black in the Tipo B and Anthony Mayman in R4D. At the old Woodcote corner, Patrick would regularly have Remus snaking under braking and still in control, before exiting in a glorious power slide that would last half way up the main straight, one of the rare occasions of seeing man and machine in perfect harmony.
It's astonishing that Ludovic is doing this. Patrick must be turning in his grave.

As you say, they must have a very good reason for putting this car up for sale. I would imagine that they must have real troubles - if it were my car, it would be the last thing I'd give up, given the love lavished upon it by my father, not to mention the brio with which he drove it!
I wonder how much it will fetch? It ought to be worth more than a common or garden 250 GTO...

Circumstances change, no doubt there is a very good reason to sell, or it could simply be a case of putting the feelers out to see if somebody is willing to pay a huge amount for it (worth every penny as far as I'm concerned) in the same way that pre HIPS people put their houses on the market without the intention to sell.
Like everybody else, if it does sell, hopefully it will still be used in public

I was there too, Dad took mee to all the VSCC Silverstone meets in the early sixties (in the family Riley Kestrel) - and Remus was always one of the stars of the show.I think they have tried to sell Remus before.

2009 Goodwood Revival - what a grid the Goodwood Trophy featured. I'd be surpised if Remus fetched as much as a 250 GTO, but, as with all valuable commodities, will be worth what someone will pay. Interesting to see the list of current owners - I never realised Nick Mason was an ERA owner. I suspect, unfortunately, that Rodney Smith died a couple of years ago but his wife, Mary, still enters the car in various events.

I seem to remember a feature on Remus in Motorsport, with the last paragraph being Ludo saying that he would never sell it, or he would prefer to lose his house than the car. The next month (or within a couple of months) there was a full page advert in the back of Motorsport.Am I imagining things? It would have been around 2003-2004.
