Accession criteria for new F1 teams

OK, here’s a thought.

With all the mirth surrounding the new “non” F1 teams (i.e. USF1) and the negativity that this attracts, would it not be prudent of the FIA to impose similar accession criteria to new teams as they do with drivers?

In other words, for a team to compete in F1, they must first have to have competed at certain levels for a period of time in lower designated formulae. Virgin is a prime example of this (it being Manor Motorsport with a long racing pedigree).

No. What the FIA need to do is operate on a fair basis and view all team applications fairly. Something that the previous regime massively failed to do. Hopefully this new regime will be a little bit fairer.

I believe there were very political reasons for the team selection, in that spanky excluded anyone too big/powerfull, and by forcing them to use the cosworth lump (so no connections to the big teams) he could divide F1 into two distinct groups with different agendas and prevent the teams acting in unity as with FOTA. As ever his arrogance fails him and leaves the mess we now have now, for all his successors flaws I do believe todt has a better grasp of reality, whats possible, practical and sensible.
