Not really a competition as there isn't a prize... hehe

I've found some old photos and have just scanned a few;

This chap had come in to a stage finish to see his son, who went on to win his first international - Who is he and extra points for recognising others in the picture?

Too easy then smile

This is more obvious

This was also taken on the same event - but strangely I don't have a shot of Colin on that one.

I need to identify other drivers/rallies smile

Like this;

Waldegaard/Gallagher, Toyota Celcia GT4 ST165 Rac 1988. Might be Kankkunen/Piironen

and this;

Eklund/Whittock 1983 RAC rally, Toyota Celica

This one I'm fairly certain of - he won it
Airikkala/McNamee Mitsubishi Galant VR4 1989 RAC. Acutally having looked a bit closer, I think you are wrong, as i beleive this to be the vatanen/berglund car, as Mcnamee had a black helmet. So i'll change my mind and say it is the vatanen car from 1989.

You've made me question things now - look at the guys in the background, it was 1990 - could it have been Eriksson?

Matt, no but close - Dalby - as you turn on to the long straight going down to Mikkolas bend. Sounds sad I know after taking the picture 20 years ago but I've only ever done starts & finishes in Langdale - oh yes, and course car smile

i thnk we are both right. Its not Airikkala as the co driver helmet is the wrong colour, but I don't think it is 1989. Which leaves Eriksson or Vatenen. On the bigger picture you can just make out that the driver is wearing a full face helmet. I know that Eriksson never wore a full face, so on that basis it is Vatanen /Bergland 1990.

Yes, Vatanen/Bergland 1990, looking at the big picture you can see the number 4, and going with entry lists from '89 and '90 this would be right

i have a suspicion Mr Ranger that we are approximately the same age - mid 30's and we're both originally from Yorkshire. All those events that you have posted up I also spectated at.

1990 Cartel - I spectated at Wass
1990 RAC I spectated at Cropton
1986 National Breakdown, I tried to spectate at Harewood Hillclimb but it was cancelled. ( do a you tube on 1986 national breakdown, you'll see my upload of the event)
1988 RAC I spectated at Rudding Park
1983 RAC I spectated at Harewood Hill. ( My first ever event) - i was 9.

No, afraid not.... I'm not actually in the top photo... hehe if you look at the next one down I'm the one in the black baseball hat and the headset (timing link to the flying finish) gurning away that Jim has actually chatted!!

Well, well! I'm a bit older than you and from the list it's funny how many events we've been at!!!

Trying to remember....

1990 Cartel - Timing marshal on the stop line Harwood Dale - photos above
1990 RAC - Various, still in the years of working as travelling Marshals so without the full route to hand I can't remember exactly but Dalby was one and we were RAC regulars in Grizedale too - I think there would've been a Scottish stage as well.
1986 National Breakdown - we did Croft and went on to Dalby but stopped at the Fox & Rabbit where the re-group was happening. Ended up in the Woodyard for the final run as the rally was cancelled after that.
1988 RAC - Rudding Park - Marshal, I think we were timing again
1983 RAC - I spectated at Harewood Hill too - that's where the Eklund photo was taken.

The 1976 Mintex was my first event - Woodyard and walked through to another part. As an impressionable kid I was just hooked on rallying after that...
After all 'Ranger 6' is my rally call-sign - the Rangers are all Trackrod operators smile
