Was going backwards and forwards through that a fair few times last year!
There are many many tunnels around the track and whilst having this one out of action will be a pita the track can still run very well without it.
The only real problem (now it would appear sure that there is no-one in there!) is the damage to the track.

That shot looks like it is taken from half way round Stavelot.
The tunnel there is relatively new and very unlikely to have been the one, certainly having seen the news item posted on the thread on the other forum.
This is a different tunnel and built to an entirely different standard. Driving a VW Transporter van through it causes(ed) ne to duck and breath in at the same time!

Have had a look at the first link again (the daily motion one) and sorry Paul, you are right and I am wrong!
It is the new truck tunnel by the look of that and from the map at the very start of the clip (
at me!) You wouldn't be able to get a digger into what i have always considered to be the Blanchimont tunnelThat is a very real surprise though as that tunnel is only about 5 or 6 years old iirc.
I still sand by my comment it should be called the Stavelot Tunnel though, The effing Busstop is closer to Blanchimont than that!

Still not 100% sure about this. I've just texted a mate who used to live on a farm just outside Stavelot until a few years ago to see what he knows from the jungle drums and to see if he can remember when the tunnel was built/last worked on.

Got a text back late last night and it seems my friend thinks it was built in the 80's so 1978 must be right. Sheesh, i really didn't think it was that old and remember that there was work going on around it when i first saw it so it proves me wrong!
The mind is still boggling at the thought process which determined it should be called the Blanchemont Tunnel though
