Bernie wants more street races....
Discussion
One in NYC and one in Rome.
Has he not watched the terminally dull weekend that is the GP at Valencia, or in fact any of the stupid Mickey Mouse street tracks that the WTCC visits?
Surely the Bahrain 'spectacle' has to have reminded him a little bit of the need to produce some kind of spectacle to stop people turning off in droves?

I think the should just have displays in these places rather then 'races'. I remember seeing the cars in London a few years ago when Martin Brundle was driving the Jaguar and it was an amazing sight and sound.....but.....the tracks can never be created to create overtaking opportunities and as you say just ends up boring to watch. You can't recreate the magic of monaco.....if anything by having more street/city races you dilute how special monaco is!
Just do a televised display to promote F1 and have a kart race around the city with the top drivers......might be more exciting then an actual race

I was there! I was marshalling inside the "pit" compound, standing right next to the Jordan truck being deafened by those glorious, wailing v10's (or were they v12's then?). I ended up staring at a steering wheel for hours on end Just do a televised display to promote F1 and have a kart race around the city with the top drivers......might be more exciting then an actual race

That is the day my blood got an octane rating. Will never forget being that close to an F1 car that had the engine running. I was within arms reach for a little while, watching (and listening to) the cars warming up, revving etc. A real assault on the senses to me, I didn't know it was going to be THAT loud).
Did I use the ear plugs they gave me? No, they are in my house as a memento...
...can anyone else hear that ringing sound?

I think they should do a Milton Keynes street race. Lots of long straights, tight corners or S-bends over the roundabouts, lots of spectator space. It'd be awesome.
Probably.
They can race through the shopping centre, I am sure that marble floor would liven it up a bit...Probably.
Would pay to see Schumacher stack it into New Look!

Wasn't Damon campaigning for a London GP a few years ago...
Would love to have seen that.. I am sure that the logisitics would make it impossible... but it would be good....
i dunno, if they can block 26miles of roads for some people to ahve a jog, they can block a bit for a streetrace. wont make it any good though.Would love to have seen that.. I am sure that the logisitics would make it impossible... but it would be good....

Was in Kew Gardens a few weeks ago, couldn't help but ponder what an awesome racetrack you could build there.

Probably get some opposition though.

Having grown up watching Indycar in the glory days as well as F1 I have a soft spot for road courses. One of the interesting things is that IF they are laid out with passing in mind, sometimes they can offer great passing opportunities (a lot of courses with big long straights and hard braking areas into a hairpin come to mind.) Because grip levels are lower and they are often bumpier sometimes this has the effect of lengthening the braking area and giving drivers a chance to get up the inside. Totally depends upon the layout though, and and certainly most of the recent F1 road courses are not condusive to passing.
