There have been a few PHers asking about various F1 bets. I've just copied these off one of the on-line bookies ( bet365 ) to show just what can be bet on in any race.... these odds are on offer now, well before any Qualifying so bear that in mind when reading these details. Come Qualifying, those odds could be 'all change' ... these are just a sample of what you can bet on and it is the tip of the iceberg ~ there's a huge variety :~

temptingLast season I lost a fair bit backing Nico Rosberg at sometimes very long odds in nearly every race... Thought my boat had finally come in when we got to singapore, but sadly wasn't to be.
I've had to give that up for now, mainly due to a lack of funds. He is a fairly consistent driver though, so backing him to finish in the points could see you do well across the season.
His consistency at setting fast laps in free practices and races, but not getting it together ober the course of a race to actually finish on the podium is what interests me, The Singapore incident also made me think he just doesn't have the maturity/concentration to truly hang it all together, whether this will come with time I'm not sure. I wouldn't be suprised to see him win at least one race this year though.
An interesting strategy to use on the exchanges is to back a driver you believe is going to qualify well, and do well in the race, but not actually win it. You can usually back them before qualifying at around 3/1, and lay them off as low as 1.25 if you are lucky. I've done this succesfully once with Hamilton at Valencia, but only thanks to the balls up with the tyres, It's a strategy that would have possibly very well with Vettel at the last two races.
I wouldn't take my advice, as I'm not very good at this, hence why I don't really do it anymore... If i had a bit more ready cash I would. Mostly because it's quite good fun.

Hmmm, I can't imagine there will be at least 2 retirees on the first lap at every race this season though.

In fairness it always worth checking the odds after qualifying.
Bet365 after qualifying on Saturday had Jenson Button at 16/1, which was a crazy but much appreciated price for the fella sat on fourth. Dont think many serious bets are laid on F1 so the prices tend to offer more value than other sports.
How they could price 4th on the grid at 16/1 is amazing. Each Way covers top 3, so at 16/1 I thought it was a great EW bet!!!
Think I may back Vettel at 13/8 to qualify on pole, as he does have the best 1 lap car, will probably wait to see how wet it is though!

Yes, so did I. That was exactly my reasoning too after qualifying ~ I backed him at 16-1 hoping for at least a podium and later when I checked, he was even better @ 18-1 so I had a bit more on Jenson each way....On another car enthusiasts web site, I posted that I thought Hamilton even from his grid 11th was a 'shoe in' to finish in the first six and @ 11/10 against, I found those odds attractive. If those or better odds were available on him just before the race when we'd all have a better idea of weather conditions, I would have a good bet on him to finish in the first six. Imagine how I felt when although my radio alarm did go off at 06:45, not set too loud as did not want to wake others in the house from their will earned Sunday lay in, so I did not awake until they were on lap four or five! So, missed the start and first bend activity ...
.....Turned on the TV.....Where's Button. Where's Alonso ... where's ... Safety car ? ...How did Kubica get there ? I'm a heavy sleeper and with that in mind, I'm glad I placed my bets on Button earlier. Missed out on Hamilton though ~ except that I thought even that had gone astray when he was "Webbered" but, had I woke up in time to have that top six bet on him, that too would have been a winner despite tyres and Webber's attentions... Rerun TV footage whilst SC circulating ...... On the first bend when Alonso moved across Button I kissed my bets goodbye ~ How Button emerged from that avoiding the spinning Ferrari unscathed I shall never know ... the old smoothie did though. Then seeing him pit early I thought his car must have sustained damage after all and again kissed my bets goodbye a second time ...
Here's to the next race ... I've had a decent bet on Vettel @ 9-4 ~ surely he is due a change of fortune ... now I'm 'on' watch him bin it in qualifying ....
Funny old game racing ...
What I like this early in the season is the reliability of the Fez and Macca. With a decentish lead, hard-to-overtake context, a Mac or Fez in the lead with 15laps to go is once again shaping up to be a nice lil money spinner for me this season.
RBs though...different story! Sorry Seb, but I want to see you put some runs to the finish together first before I go placing heavy money on you!
