Bernie wants Russia and New York races, and lose some others

I'm more interested in the NY plans. Is their any circuit or street circuit route used there for any American series? From this: "The idea is that you see New York in the background,"it might not be in the centre of NY but outside it with the skyline as a backdrop. One other thing he says there: "We're going to lose some races for sure, there are some races we can afford to lose without too much problem," he told Bloomberg. "I've spoken to the countries to see what we can come up with."

So which races would it be no great loss to say goodbye to?

Bahrain, Monaco and Valencia none of these give good racing.

That would be a disaster likewise for Monaco just because of history.

GP's are never officially named after the town they are run. Would a GP in New York become the latest US GP?

This is the problem - the vision is not about a quality GP circuit but actually about the scenery and surroundings of the circuit (just as with all of the new tracks... e.g. flashing LED hotels...).

but they generate income for bernie

unlikely to get rid of them unless he can make more cash elsewhere

now Russia have a driver he'll look to tap into that market

Don't diasgree with two of those.

Monaco would never go - it's too good for the sponsors and "joe public" - companies love hosting guests there - its the one every CEO will go to. The drivers love it as a demonstration of how much guts they have; until they get stuck behind someone... and every driver wants to be seen to win there and be compared with Hill, Senna, Schumacher. And occasionally it throws an amazing race - like Hamilton a few years ago, and Panis in the 90's, plus Mansell in 92(?) against Senna..

It is silly, but it's compelling viewing and edge of the seat stuff.

Definitely Bahrain and Valencia to start with then any number of the new tracks.

Keep Monaco. Yes it's a crap race but it has a unique atmosphere and the F1 'circus' there is a one off. We can afford to have one processional race. (Just improve all the others)
