With the money in NASCAR today they should design ovals with better drainage and I think that the cars should run with wet weather tyres and wipers. If the fans pay the drivers and NASCAR should deliver. F1 races, IRL races, DTM, Le Mans all drive unless the weather is dreadful, so why not NASCAR.
They did try to run in the wet on a circuit track a couple of years back. Some had a single wiper, one ended up using a sponge on the end of a stick when his wiper failed.

I'd love to hear your theory on this. Perhaps more of a crown on the surface?As said above, the racing is too close and the spray would be too much. There are less reference points for a driver to rely on in low visibility and the speeds are too high to go ploughing into someone you didnt see until you hit him. Plus there is no run-off for cars to spin onto to be out of the way etc etc
Texas may have higher rainfall in May than the rest of the year, but how does that compare with the rest of the South's rainfall in May? Probably still drier than most.
I would suggest that the only way it could be run safely would be at speeds that simply arent worth watching. Ive heard it said by the commentators that if you could stand alongside a NASCAR mid corner, simply pushing the inside rear 1/4 panel with your hand would be enough to spin it out. Im not sure thats going to fit well when you take 20-30% of the grip away.

The reason they don't run rain tyres is that the corners are usually more steeply banked than the straights. Because of this the corners will dry out faster than the straights making for wet/dry/wet/dry laps meaning wet tyres overheat and become useless and dry tyres make the cars slip off the roads. At least that's what I've been told in the past.
