General admission has gone up around £40 since 2007 to £164, while Silverstone is £120 without any booking fees I havnt checked. I know Spa is one of the best circuits in the world and longer than Silverstone but that increase is ridiculous, especially when both circuits have both signed new deals since then and carried out extensive modifications!

The expensive modifications have to be paid for and can only be paid for by ticket prices hence they go up!

In theory if Spa is a longer circuit then shouldn't the prices be lower as you'll see less laps?

Its not the fact that thyev gone up, but how much the price is at Spa compared to Silverstone which everyone bhes about!

Lemans sounds a bargain though, I have to go to that next year

And they'll both still make a loss - Ecclestone charges something like £50m to host an F1 race and nobody even breaks even. Just to do that they'd have to charge several hundred pounds for a ticket so blame the poison dwarf.

+1 to that. I went a few years back and you get so much for your money! Nothing better than waking up in the middle of the night to go and watch the racing when most people are asleep....night racing is the best

I'v got pit lane passes with the old boy for the Spa Grand Prix this year. We are going for 4 days, taking a huge amount of spitfire beer, a tent and a BBQ.

I cant wait!!!

We looked at the British GP, but as the OP stated.... far to much money unfortunatly....

I think a) the sheer number of spectators (235,000 last year) and b) the fact that the ACO aren't having to pay Bernie, mean that Le Mans is pretty well self-sustaining. At a very conservative average spend per spectator of €125 then their revenue is just shy of €30M for one race.

Then add in the 24 hour bike race and other events such as the Classic and you can see how they could afford the various upgrades to the paddock and 'village' at the circuit.

And long may it continue quite frankly. Just a pity that circuits like Spa and Silverstone haemorrhage money every year for the 'privilege' of hosting a GP....

+1 Le mans is superb value for money.. although it can be expensive depending on where you want to sit etc..

I would love to go to the Monaco GP though, I was there last year a few days before the race and the atmosphere was amazing! well worth the money.

Blimey family ticket ,(general admission for 4 people for all 4 days), was about $300 in Melbourne.

I went to Spa in 2008 and Silverstone in 2006 or 07 cant quite remember but do remember thinking how much cheaper the weeekend ticket for spa was compared to silverstone. Booked for Spa this year and thought the prices have gone up a fair amount but would the £ against the Euro also influence the costs to us?

Same for Lemans this year it is costing us a lot more than it did in 2004 when we first went.

Cheaper to Race! (Almost). Why anyone would pay to be josseled about at Silverstone and one corner of a flat GP track is beyond me.

You could get a whole cookery course for that

Euro has hit this a little but also the ACO are getting as greedy with the Puiblic as they have been with the Media and stall holders for the last 15 years.

Sorry to be doom and gloom but the good old Le Mans days are gone, the good news though is that the cost will hopefully correct the riff raff/petrol head ratio and there will always be a new attraction to take the place of the old. For me Houx Round about was fantastic until the last 3 years but now we have the delights of a tram into a fantastic town to exploit!

I think the contract fee for Silverstone is something like £17m with a 5% increase year on year for the next 17 years.

A few years ago I was there (hospitality!!) and had a little presentation from a former driver. Amongst the figures he gave was on average, A GP weekend sees around 120,000 people through the gates, each spending on average in the region of £220.00. That's £26m on gate fees alone.

As Spa is in the Eurozone and in 2007 the Euro was trading at or around 1.55:1 and is now at 1.15:1 I would have expected at least a 30% increase just because of currency fluctuations. Then factor in inflation and improvements.

It's generally more expensive as our pound is so weak

Hmmmm As a matter of interest how old is Bernie? I assume that inheritance tax isn't paid on a divorce settlement! Mind you I suppose its not paid between wife and husband either
