I'm just watching the 1984 highlights and the interview with Martin Brundle in the pre race is an absolute classic.

The contrast in safety precautions is unbelievable - marshalls tugging at his helmet and then almost being allowed back out despite being semi conscious!

I think you might find it began even earlier - if you can find any interviews with non-British-Irish/American/Antipodean drivers from earlier eras. Drivers began to be interviewed much more frequently from around 1980 as the TV coverage became more intensive.

It would be interesting to hear some earlier intervviews with people like (say) Jaques Lafitte, Patrick Depailler or Nelson Piquet.

I've been watching the replays since Australia. They showed replays from the 80's & the pit crews were in shorts & T shirts! No speed limits in the pit lanes just get in & get out as fast as you can, brilliant stuff.

If a car breaks down & its not in the way then just leave it there & get it at the end

With no refueling from 1983 to 1993, shorts and t-shirts were the norm.

I enjoyed 84 I think it was, the soaking wet race where Mansell snatched the lead from Prost then starting hoofing the back end out as his confidence rose until it all went awry at the top of the hill resulting in a rear puncture.

Was running sooo close to the barricade on the inside under the tunnel too.



The classic JPS Lotus remains an awesome sight...
