what to do with.....
Discussion
ok, bit of a strange one this but I appear to have inherited a very ropey Dutton Phaeton which hasnt seen a road this decade. Its straight (and road legal!) but I cant think of a use other than to track/race it. Ive decided to buy a towbar and trailer and was thinking of the 750 club circuit but note that the <1600 cc class no longer exists which would obviously would make me a perpetual loser with the duttons 1.6 pinto engine. I want to have the ability to make a half decent go of it on the club racing scene but other thatn the 750~MC I dont know what on earth to do. No amount of googling helps, any ideas??
i think for the 750mc series, it will need a full cage and side intrusion bar which will be a lot of effort. i think most race series will insist on this and if it only has a hoop at the moment, a full cage will be about £1K inc VAT. does it have a fire extinguisher and kill switch too? even if it does, they are probably out of date.
i would go for sprints and hillclimbs, autotests, autosolos etc. you may not be competitive against the likes of caterfields without some serious engine work (assuming that its runninga xflow or a pinto) but just enjoy it. they are great fun for some hooning around, you may find that running in road going kit cars in sprints is the best way forwards, you wont need much safety eqpt and that money can be spent o nengines!!!
