The only bit I have read was Karun Chandoks race report where he mentioned running over it and scraping underneath all the way down to the Mirabeau corner. I thought it was Hamilton at first but Karun ran over it.

Perhaps since it's now been proven to have been an unsecured drain cover that caused Barrichellos accident they are perhaps giving him some leeway to his tantrum as it wasn't his fault. A word in his ear about it and Bernie drops HRT a few thou' to cover damages to Karun's car. All hush-hush.

I think Barri is a great bloke, BUT I think that what he did was f****ng stupid. Had that ripped a front wing off someone they could have had a serious accident.

What I don't understand is if an English driver did that he'd have a real temper problem and would probably get a 10 grid place penalty but when a South American does such a thing, it's just latin spirit..........

Apparently after Karun drove over it so did Bruno and the wheel still worked when recovered by Williams.

But his response was that as he was facing the wrong way on an unsighted corner, his main concern was to get out of the car tout de suite before someone hit him.

Hondafanatic, I would disagree, crashed on unsigted corner, facing wrong way, my first thought would be to stay in the disaster proof car until Mylander was out and keeping my ass safe. Yeah, if someone clipped him it would be uncomfortable, but its safer to be hit in an F1 car than to be hit by one outside of yours.

He's saying that if you bin it anywhere near the racing line, you;d be mental to get out whilst people are still doing 150. You're better being hit in the car, than having your ankles sliced off by a front wing.
In effect, he's saying it was a toys / pram moment. I saw it as that as well, despite the fact that I really like Barrichello and have a lot of time for him on / off track. IMO this should have been punished, because it was dangerous.

Do you mean it worked in the sense of still being a steering-wheel, i.e. round with some bits to hold on to.. or did all the buttons and dials still work as well?

I took it as meaning steering, clutch, gear flappy paddles and maybe even electronics, I think it was on Claire @ Williams GP Twitter account before she managed to delete it.
