Quick question

Do you need to get 6 signatures in one your or 6 from starting. i.e. can I carry the 3 from last year over.

Try looking in the MSA Blue Book or the MSA website!!!!

Not clear from the Blue Book:
"30. Competitors wishing to collect signatures for
upgrading their competition licence must use the
Upgrade Card. For the Upgrade Card to be valid it must
be signed in ink and must bear a passport type
photograph of the holder, which must be permanently
fixed to the Upgrade Card in the space provided.
lf you want to upgrade your licence on renewal and you
have met the Upgrading criteria detailed in this section,
please forward your completed 2009 Competition
Licence Application Form together with the appropriate
licences and/or Upgrade Card containing the
signatures and the required payment to the Licence
Section.
If you want to upgrade your licence and you are already
in possession of a current 2009 Competition Licence,
please detach and complete the white licence
amendment card contained in the Year Book and
forward it, together with your 2009 Competition Licence
and any other appropriate licences and/or Upgrade
Card containing the necessary signatures with the
required payment to the Licence Section. The payment
is calculated as the difference between the cost of the
existing licence and the new licence plus the upgrading
fee as detailed in Appendix 3. A request for an
upgrading signature has to be made to the organisers,
and if the results of the event show that the driver’s
performance was satisfactory, his/her Upgrade Card
will be signed by the Clerk of the Course in the space
provided. In the case of Kart Races, only the MSA
Steward of the Meeting is empowered to sign and only
one signature per meeting is permitted, (Kart
Endurance or Kart Tyro signatures are not accepted to
upgrade a Kart Race Licence). A maximum of two
signatures may be obtained at a car race meeting. In
exceptional circumstances only, documentary
evidence, such as printed official results sheets may be
accepted as proof of performance for upgrading.
Results which predate the competitors last upgrade will
only be accepted where the total number of results
obtained is sufficient to meet the upgrade criteria from
the basic competition licence for that discipline to that
being sought."

•" National ‘B’ to National ‘A’ Race A competitor who
is qualified to hold a 2009 National ‘B’ Race licence
may upgrade it to National ‘A’ Race licence either at
renewal or during the year as follows:
• Obtain Clerk of the Course’s signatures on the
Upgrade Card certifying that the qualifying events
have been successfully completed. These are 6
National ‘B’ or Clubman Races (these can all be from
one circuit), or 12 Junior Race signatures, and must
not contain more than 1 signature from Races
organised by or on behalf of Racing Schools which
form part of a school course or curriculum. One of
the Clerk of the Course signatures required for having
successfully completed a Race may be replaced by a
Clerk of the Course signature recorded on the
Upgrade Card for completing a day on a marshal’s
post during a race meeting.
• One of the Clerk of the Course signatures for
having successfully completed a Race may be
replaced with a signature recorded on the Upgrade
Card for having successfully completed an ARDS
Advanced Course."

and before you ask if anyone knows the number, on the website it says

You just need six signatures it doesn't matter if they are last or this year's.

Phoned them
There is no time limit, also if you was unable to get the signature at the time you can supply the official timing/results sheet.

I forgot to ask though can you take your novice cross off one you have the 6 or do you have to wait till your licence has been upgraded.

Take it off, I know people who have been racing on a Nat B for years and one started before I was born.

The novice cross is not linked to the grade of licence, its simply an indicator that you haven't completed 6 races. If you only want to race in Nat B races you never need any other form of licence. As an example, Britcar is Nat B.

You need a Nat A to compete in continental Europe. I went a bit mad and got an International C in 2007 but might reconsider for this year's renewal given the cost differential and the requirement to have an annual medical regardless of age, which now includes an ECG
