I've just been told that Liz Halliday will again be in the commentary team for Eurosport's coverage of Le Mans this year. I think she's a real find. This is her third year now. Always talks a lot of sense.

I've met her a couple of times, once at the inaugral Le Mans Endurance Series race in Nov 2003 and then in the middle of last year when I saw her riding a horse in Sussex. I recognised her immediately - she's 'matured well' as my dad would say - and I went up to her.

The last thing any attractive woman wants to see is some fat bloke with grey hair and a smile approaching but I said: We've met before. And she remembered me. I was quite touched. Most people block me from their mind.

If only!

I like her, of that there is no doubt. A very pleasant women. You get some drivers who, with the stress of the race, are at times, how shall we say, abrupt? She, with Amanda Stretton and the very fast Fanny Duchateau were willing to chat.

She's competing both in horse riding and motor racing.

I'm at that stage in life when any girl who isn't obviously physically repelled by me is something of a rarity.

I tell you what, though. The horse she was riding on the day I met her in Sussex was a bit on the big and powerful side.
