What track is closest to the South West?

Hi guys,

My Geography is rubbish so thought I would ask you knowlegable people. Any idea what track on the calender is closest to the southwest (Bristol area). Also any ideas why Castle Combe was a one off?

At a guess I'd say Brands this weekend will be about the closest?

After that, Mallory is near Leicester, Rockingham is Corby (Northampton) and Oulton Park is Cheshire.

These are both.

However, modern GTs run similar noise and speed levels, I guess its just a legacy from when Tuscan held all the lap records '90s-'00s and the fact that the crash testing on them is 20 years old rather than 3 and up to date.

Shame as Combe was fantastic last year and Thruxton would be something special.

Its more down to noise restricting the available dates, and the series not being high enough profile to get one of the limited slots... Also with only 6 meetings your always going to miss out some circuits..

Coombe and thruxton along with Donny and Knockhill are circuits I've only raced on once in 10 years of racing....

I don't believe that for a moment Andy.

It has more to do with Combe now having its own organising club and Thruxton being run by BARC, whilst the TVRs are organised by BRSCC. BRSCC get to put relatively few days on at either circuit, they are costly and they'll only do it for decent sized grids.

Ironically one of the few races I did last year in the Sagaris was at Thruxton, with just a handful of cars making the race. Standard Tuscan silencers on my 5.7 Chevy, no problem at all.

I know that andy...you know that...

Combe (and I dare say Thruxton)wants anyone who'll race, but the two circuits have very limited track time and TVRs just don't fit anymore. Thrxton has only 12 loud (105db) race weekend a year allowed by the council. We (TVRs) came back to Combe when we had 20 on the grid, but since numbers are lower this year, its the "easier circuits" that have been booked. By that I mean easier to book.

You're right tho...its the BRSCC that push to the other circuits...and noise, speed, driver standard, numbers, all come into it. Lotus go where they want and do what they want as they have 35+ per weekend with reserves and have quieter cars.

Sorry Andy, the only item in your list that has any bearing on where the TVRs race is grid numbers.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with noise or speed, excpet to say that circuits which have limited race days due to noise will of course sell their liited time at a premium, which in turn will mean organising clubs will only put series on those days that have strong grids to make the thing a financial success.

Lotus go where they want because they have 35+ cars. Full stop.

I know that, thats why I added the wink. I'm back there next week for the Britcar round, looking forward to keeping it ont he black stuff this time. qually on sat and racing sunday if anynes about.

Think you need to look at the Calender baring in mind theres only 9 car meetings a year.

The problem also lies with the 'Combe 3' which supports full grids at all meetings[as you'll find out next week;)] something a lot of visiting championship fail to be able to do.
Having said that i thought last years visit was a breathe of fresh air just a pity so many cars got damaged.

Being a paying spectator i want to see full grids which Combe do seem to able to provide at most meetings its far more intresting watching 30 cars than 15[Britcar being one example by putting GT and production together].....as for the circuit being too fast i very much doubt it considering in the 'Tuscan' days there were 30 of em starting a sight i'll never forget oh and the Circuit now belive it or not is a lot slower than it used too be
