Silverstone without a ticket

I live relativley close to the circuit and just wondered if its worth maybe cycling up towards Silverstone on the Sunday (if the weather is nice) to try and get a feel of the event from outside - hear the screaming engines?? Anybody know if this is worth the bother?

You won't be able to see very much at all, (If anything!) but if you like listening to the engines then go for it.

If you like listening to screeching F1 engines I say go for it.

I can confirm you cannot see anything. Any vantage points have long since been blocked by buildings or mounds of earth.

Now if know how to fly a helicopter, or can dig a tunnel then...

I used to live the otherside of Towcester - you could hear the start. Also in those days before the A43 by pass the Sunday morning was like a scene out of Apocolypse Now with the Helicopters ferrying in passengers.

If you're on a budget consider going on Friday for the practice - the first one is early, you'll get a feel for the event, and for me, the speed of Senna and Alesi into the old Stowe corner. Then watch the race on the BBC.

i live between J15 an 14 of the M1 and the helicopters before the A43 was built were immense as a kid! and the red arrows displays!

How bad will the traffic be around Silverstone this weekend, and when does it start (the traffic problems)?

(I'm moving to a village about 5miles North of Silverstone this weekend and hoping I won't be too effected.)

About 3 hours either side of the race is a living nightmare for about a 10 mile radius from the track. Other than that it's just a bit busier than normal

You lot must have been at a different Grand Prix to me last year, we were straight in straight out on the Sunday, getting out after qualli was much worse.

It'll be fine, as long as you avoid the A43.
