The man is a lifetime hero of mine. Posters on my bedroom walls, models of many of his race cars etc.
I did not want to say this, but did anyone else think that he was appearing a little less sharp then a couple of years ago? He looked and sounded rather confused to me when being interviewed in the pit lane, maybe it was just the pain killers he is surely prescribed with but I was worried. It was honestly like watching my gran, who is going downhill fast.
I saw him at Goodwood a couple of years ago and it was such a contrast, just got me worried.

I think it was just loud there and the headphones for talk back weren't working so he was in the same shoes as anyone else grabbed for a word. Not only him....I watched Murray Walker interview Jenson and Lewis in the pits at Silverstone on Friday and even the great man was showing signs of ageing. But then both these guys are well into their 80s aren't they? I didn't bump into JYS this year, but he was looking a bit gnarled round the edge last year too....clarksonisawilly said:

I thought the same. He wasn't wearing the BBC headset. Those were team headsets. I agree with 4WDrift - I think it was just that he couldn't hear the questions due to the noise & faulty headphones. And Jake looked away from him at one point when asking his question, so Moss (who'd said he was lipreading) ended up answering the wrong question.Murray, bless 'im, started to go a bit slow & confused in the last year he was commentating; he doesn't appear to have got any worse since. And he looks to be in much better shape than Sir Patrick Moore, who's gone completely spherical in his dotage...

I didn't see him in a wheelchair at either Silverstone or Goodwood and as he's racing at the Silverstone Classic in a couple of weeks he's obviously still pretty sharp. I actually did think he didn't seem himself when I saw him at Autosport in January (Pre fall) but I thought he seemed a lot better at Goodwood and Silverstone and was pleased to see he seemed to be back to his old self. At 88 he's never going to be the same as he was when he was younger but I'd be happy if I'm like that at his age!
