i,m sorry i can,t see the point of this yahoo thing,i,m not techy minded and have tried to see what the point of this new group is.it seams to take an age just to find the group let alone anythink else.i havn,t got the time to struggle with this unfriendly form of contact so if it,s not on here i,ll have to put up with missing out on stuff.i would personally prefer to use the main challenge site but as it,s not up and running for 2010 posting here is the only option for me which i don,t mind as i would pm someone if i didn,t want it in public eye.am i missing the point of yahoo?if i miss out racing with you chaps i,ll be sorry but i can,t even get yahoo to send my own test post onto my usual mail service and as has allready been said i too have too many forums i have to keep an eye on as it is.

The Yahoo group was/is a temporary and could possibly be permanent fix to a long term problem.
The challenge website was active for 2009 but the forum element was never functional. All discussions were therefore via email (if Graham had the email address) or via PH. This worked OK for 2009 as the grid numbers were in the most part good and with the TVR coverage and website being sponsored by Owen meant that there wasn’t too much negative discussion.
With the changes this year there was a lot of negative stuff being posted about the changes, the intermarque series and the TV coverage so it was suggested that that sort of stuff wasn’t discussed in an open forum where people outside of the series could fan the flames for their own entertainment.
The challenge website this year hasn’t worked and the company running it are just not helping. George Carter and I have put forward a proposal to the drivers to take over the website and this was received positively (still waiting on feedback and profiles from most by the way) but we have not been able to get the system away from where it currently sits and are now facing a from scratch rebuild. As you can appreciate this takes a lot of time and cost that we hadn’t planned for and to be honest the new site may not happen in time. It will be up and running for 2011.
Having discussed the content of the website with a number of the drivers and people with plenty of experience like Andy R, I'm now not sure that adding a forum to the website is the way to go anyway. If we do add that facility it will definitely be a second place to look for information and I think that PH is the best place for 'open' information such as entry lists, changes to regs or races and appeals for parts or assistance. We are all comfortable with PH and old habits are hard to break. Bear in mind also that the Challenge is the one of a very limited number of race series to have its own PH forum.
I think once you get the yahoo thing working it will show its own benefits. If you set it into your favourites menu it is no more effort than getting on here and you can send and reply to messages that will come to you as normal emails. I'm sure Graham or maybe even I could take a phone call to discuss the set up with you.
I would value the feedback from all of the users as to what you guys want as it looks like, as I say, that we will be creating the new website from scratch we don’t want to spend time and money setting up another forum to find it isn’t used.
So I'm going to try to set up a quick poll (don’t know how to do it but what the hey...)
The questions will be
1. All correspondence via this forum (Contributors would need to show restraint in posting)
2. This forum and an additional limited forum on the Challenge website when it is operational
3. This forum for open posting of information and general discussion and Yahoo group for behind closed doors discussions.

mal again many thanx for explaining this to me and your time to think and write the reply much appreciated,i will as i say have another go and keep an eye on all the different sites to gleen the info.i,m sure all your efforts will not be wasted on a new challenge site as i for one would like one place to visit read and chat about the challenge

imho the piston heads forum is very valuable, and it gives us more exposure than we could hope to get anywhere else.
There is however a need for a mechanism for more direct contact with the drivers and teams. Currently this is done by an email that i send out to a list i've harvested.
The problem with the e-mail's i send out is that its only 1 way, so if anything needs discussing it ends up on the formum. most of the time thats fine but every now and then ( happens in all series) someone is unhappy about something and its better discussed in private.. As we dont have a mechanism for that it end up on here, which isnt perhaps the best idea..

that allows important announcments to go via e-mail to everyone, and they can also comment and raise new questions to everyone without the outside world looking in, and being e-mail you dont need to check it just comes to you. It also means that new drivers and teams have a mechanism for applying to join the list rather than me having to ask and remember to add it.
Now this doesnt have to be a yahoo list, most webhosting will have that functionality. I used the yahoo group for now as it used to be dead simple to setup.. but sounds like the yahoo integration has made it a bit more complicated..

combined with
Mailinlist/egroup for all series announcments and series discussions.. ( yahoo or otherwise)
Ideally the best idea would be to stick with yahoo for now and then when mal/George get the web site sorted we move to the mailinglist/egroup run through that.. easier to integrate the joinup onto the site then as well. If that hosting cant do it, I'll bung something up on one of our servers..

I am a member of a number of TVR related yahoo e-groups and one Google e-group (the Yahoo one seems easier than the Google version). It seems to work everywhere else so I guess it is teething problems as people are trying to get used to the system. I say stick with it because it is a very valuable and easy way of getting information out and hosting discussions.
