I have just been looking at the new US track proposal and I think that maybe, just maybe, someone else could do better and not plaigerise someone else's work.

In all seriousness a sec, I know this is going to come out as the random chitter-chatter of a kid on his school holidays, but bear with me a while.

If you were given an expanse of land with some gradient changes and were told to build a track that had to be minimum x width, a minimum 1km straight, no negative camber corners, x amount of run off and all the hospitality ste that goes with a modern GP circuit, where would you start? What would you come up with? Would you ape existing race circuits? Or would you try and come up with something totally different? Would you get the scalextric track out and have a play? Would you go on Gran Turismo and copy sets of corners from there? Would you build the track in GPL and see what it is like to drive? Would you try and have a theme?

How would you do it?
What can you come up with?
MSpaint is allowed, but it has to have the obligatory cock and balls on it. wink

Over to you. I will submit something when I get the laptop out later.

slightly off topic but v rally 2 i think it was on the playstation used to have a design your own track section. it could be pretty long or just a stage but also included some extreme elevation changes. it was brilliant for making up your own ideas.

I used to have that game back when i was 10 could make some really cool stages on it shame you cant do it on modern racing games

Errr why?

My effort? It's already been built, but I don't know how much it'd cost to put a helipad & ambulance every kilometre of the nordschleife?!

Why improve on perfection:

But I'll try.

1km long straight into
60 degree right hander - flat
500m straight into
4th gear 180 degree hairpin - flat
250m straight into 180 degree hairpin - positive camber
On exit, downhill 500m into
90 degree left hander, positive camber, uphill on exit into
250m straight into
90 degree right hander, crest on apex into
Chicane - right / left 2nd gear downhill into
120 degree right hander, slightly downhill, slightly off camber opening into
Straight 1km long into
90 degree right - flat
500m straight into
60 degree right hander - flat
500m straight uphill into
90 degree right - positive camber into
90 degree left - positive camber - downhill into
250m straight into
60 degree left into
Immediate hairpin 180 degree right
Uphill to 45 degree left into
250m straight uphill into
70 degree right hander back on to the main straight

If it's for F1 (and it's only F1 that has a problem with circuits) i guess anything where there aren't too many high speed corners, plenty of elevation changes, long, long straights, 1km straight isn't long enough for F1 and the current aero.

If it's for anything else. Donington is my favourite UK great track. Brands GP and Indy for different reasons.
Further a field i don't think you can find a better modern track than Laguna Seca smile

In the regulations.

Personally I can't think of a better way of challenging drivers by having a blind entry, off camber corner that they can never quite hit the apex of.

it's a really stange rule, isn't it? I can't even think of why there shouldn't be any negative camber corners.

totally agree. why would you just block all negative camber corners.
f1 should be a challenge for the drivers. lets make it harder for them for once.

Graham Hill bend is the only off camber corner i can think of now, and thats a great corner.

How about having a split straight!

So the circuit goes either side of a stadium for instance. There would be no aero disadvantage, by sitting in the back of someone elses slip stream....and could lead to some interesting passes. Just a thought.

Something to do with losing grip going into an accident, rather than the track making the car gain grip if there is positive camber.

Camp corner at Castle Combe is slightly off camber and it certainly has more than it's fair share of accidents. That's not to say that some decent run off wouldn't solve the situation...

How about having a split section of track that covers around 1/3 of the track, so while keeping the two options identical in length one could favour slower speed so more economical and the other could be faster but less economical?

Maybe that could mix things up a bit, giving teams lower down the grid a better chance and could stop the situation whereby a following car sits in the dirty air for 15 laps because they cant get past...

Draw a diagram then.

I got halfway through mine last night before I needed to sleep. I'll finish it tonight.

Please ignore the fact it looks like a seal looking over its shoulder!

So cars racing have the option to either use the upper (faster average speed) section or use the bit that goes through the middle (but with a lower average speed).

This could mean that not everyone is on the same race strategy.
No one particular car would be favoured as favorite.
Lesser teams would have a better chance of a result by using the section that favours their car most.
It would stop this 'dirty air' situation by giving the following car the chance to take the other route to try and get out in front when the circuit rejoins.

Just my 2p.

Interesting.

I'm going to add a loop-the-loop in mine later.

You keep on talking about cars being able to go upside down, fking prove it!

The problem with that is that it takes the 'racing' aspect out of it. If you are in a faster car you just wait till the track split and go the other way. Exciting fights where someone in a slower car is trying to keep a faster car behind (Button and Vettle at spa, Schumi and Rubens a couple of races ago) would totally disappear as why risk it when you can just wait for the split section?

Although a novel idea i think it would take alot of 'real' overtaking out of the sport, and for me that is the most exciting aspect.
