No return for Red 5 at SilverstoneNigel Mansell will not be driving in the final round of the 2010 Le Mans Series at Silverstone this weekend on doctor's orders.
Le Mans the only 'family' drive so far"While I am extremely disappointed not to be racing this weekend at Silverstone I will be there in my capacity as Team Owner and working with Leo, Greg and the rest of the team to give us the best chance of a good result at our home event and finish our first LMS season on a high," the great man is quoted as saying, so there's still a chance our PH Garage Tour competition winners will be able to grab an autograph.

The 1992 Formula One World Champion, who had a massive high speed crash at Le Mans in June, was hoping to return to the cockpit alongside his sons Leo and Greg for the Silverstone 1000km on Sunday 12 September. In a development that will be a huge disappointment to his myriad fans, we've just learned via a team press release that Nigel has not been cleared medically to recommence driving duties.

But what a bitter disappointment for the rest of us on race day. It's been a tough old year for the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team, and no mistake.

Poor old Nige - He's a National Treasure and I'd hate to see him not on top form. He was pretty courageous in Indycar and raced with a hole in his back, not to mention breaking his neck in F3
Whilst many call him a winger - I think he's just gutsy- and gives hope to all us old so and so's who are still hanging, misty eyed, round teh cars they can't afford to race
Saw him win the British GP at Brands - saw him come pretty much last in a Touring Mondeo at Silverstone but he always gives it his all.
Until someone does something better than his fightback drive to beat Piquet in the British GP he's right up there
Mind you - I wish he hadn't been blackflagged from the Portuguese GP in his Ferrari days - only my chums know why....

as an aside... does Nigel Ernest Mansell hold the record for being the oldest ever rookie at Le Mans
