Motorsport bias by BBC website.

Surely the BBC website should report on all motorsport and not just ones they broadcast on TV?

All they seem to have on their Website is F1 and MotoGP. There is a complete lack of any other motorsport as far as I can see.

400,000,000,000 types of motorsport might be hard to cover.
If you think that's bad, you oughta try autosport these days, if it's not F1, touring cars or a feeder series for either, then it's not in there! Even WRC only gets the occasional mention half way through the mag...

When I was a kid, I used to get Motoring News (does it still exist?) which was in a newspaper format and covered every kind of four wheeled motorsport imagineable.

How many sports are there - not just motor sports?

The cost to populate a site to the degree you mention would be huge given that if they did it for motor sport, they'd have to do it for pretty much ever other sport too.

There's a plenty of specialist motor sport sites that do a very good job anyway so don't really see the point of the BBC trying to compete with sites that they'd never hope to be able to do better on.

The BBC site is primarily there to add depth to their broadcast output - something that I think it does very well.

We pay for it. They cover all sorts of minority interest ste to keep the PC crowd happy, but nothing on major stuff like WRC and nothing on UK or regional motorsport.

I always thought the "Unique way the BBC is funded" was to cover the things the commercial channels are not interested in?

As the others say, if we include one series where we stop? NASCAR, IndyCar, WRC, IRC, LMS, ALMS, FIA GT's and the BTCC are all series that exist at a fairly high level but the BBC doesn't include any coverage of them thus there is no commercial sense to cover it for them. When you think of the vast range of sports the Beeb already offer it would be a struggle for them to cover them all equally.

They used to have a Motorsport section under which F1 etc was covered as well as WRC, but when they got the coverage they separated F1 out, and it seems, have quietly dropped the general Motorsport area from the main page.

It's kinda still there though with the link you sent (and listed in the "A to Z of sport" link at the bottom of the left hand navigation bar), but only updated with results by the look of it

They used to cover them. I'm not expecting great in-depth coverage, just a bit of diversity.

TBH they'll probably blame reduced funding. I'd be happy for them to lose their funding and become fully commercial, as they pretty much chase the ratings these days.

Well if you look at ESPN's web presence you can see how a massive network such as Disney/ABC/ESPN can afford so much more than a public network

There is no NASCAR or Indy on any channel in the UK is there, would get Sky if i could watch that!

Its difficult as you have to justify viewing figures and its very difficult for UK channels to grow non-traditional sports apparently.

That said if it wasn't FOOTBALL FOOTBALL FOOTBALL on every channel at least once a night then msport might get a look in.

Same with the Tour De France, would love to watch Giro D'Italia and Tour of Spain but no only Le Tour every year.

Nascar is available on sky Open Access 3 (channel 190). Thank you, sir, to the kind soul who pays for it to be broadcast. Skysports also do a (crappy) highlights package on the Monday after the race - lasts an hour. Skysports have also been covering Indy races this year.

When you were a kid? How old are you now and have you been under a rock for all that time since then?

It's now called Motorsport News, but it's the same paper. Out every Wednesday!
