Just thinking about how close this years title race is, so how many drivers will still be in with a chance of the title (mathematically) at the last race? I'm going for 4.

i think it will come down to the two red bulls and alonso. McLaren look to be just a little bit off the pace at the wrong time of the season.

Brazil will probably conclude events.

Am I the only one who doesnt want it to be decided at the final round?

Hate the circuit...and what it stands for!

I take your point, but with all to play for at the final race, it's all or nothing for the drivers. Take the Singapore GP. If it had been the last race and Seb had to pass Alonso to win the WDC, I think he would have had a go at some point, or would have crashed trying.

I'm praying that all 5 drivers are still in it and they they are the first 5 cars on the grid when the final race starts. What a spectacle that could be.

I voted 3.

Alonso
Webber
Hamilton

ETA: With Hamilton hanging on by quite a defecit from the other two going into the last race and needing both to finish behind him by some margin. I think Vettel will self destruct from the pressure and Button won't be fast enough generally.

I voted 5. I think there is much yet to unfold. Jenson and Alonso clearly have the mentality required. Hamilton is one you could never write off and is still well in it despite two DNFs. Webber has the maturity and the car to deliver and Vettel seems to finally be putting it all together, and most cetainly has the car you'd want to be in.

I hope he doesnt, but Button only needs one element of misfortune and he is out of it. I genuinely think he has the ability to stick with it though

Its just a shame that Brazil isnt the last race. Love that circuit

I voted 2. I can either see Mark going at it with Alonso. If Alonso suffers engine failure in one of the races, it might be Mark / Hamilton or Vettel. Either way, I see Webber being the only "best guess contender" till the very end.

I fear it'll be Alonso's title, but hope Mark gets the support Alonso enjoys at his team and his teammate if it does come down to that. I'm also not sure if Mark has the consistency (in qualy) to be at the front over the next few races, but with strong race pace, he hopefully should be able to remain at the front.

A 3 way contention could be very plausable as well, with Vettel hangin in there till the end.

Sadly, I don't quite see Hamilton (or Button) be any contenders. The McLaren just doesn't seem quick enough and with the remaining tracks, its lack of speed comes at a very bad time. I'd be pleasently suprised if the updates for the next race make a huge difference. The RB and the Ferrari look very quick and I think that seals it more or less.

3, I think - Vettel / Webber / Alonso will be within 25 points at the last race.

depending on how off the pace they are in Japan, you may well be right.

I can also see Massa taking vital points off the McLarens.

It's been a while since the top 5 drivers all finished in the top 6 of the same race though, Germany in fact. So there could be a few DNFs/bad races to spice things up yet.

Webber vs Alonso. Ferrari engine reliability will decide it.

Buttons already out of the picture and Hamilton and Vettel make too many mistakes.

If JB wins every race (inc Korea) and MW finishes second then JB will only be Champion by 3 points. Can you imagine Button winning the rest of the races? It's unlikely isn't it. Can you imagine Webber finishing on the podium at-least for the last four races? It's almost guaranteed.
When you put it like that, in black and white, Gaz., it does seem a hard task for JB. I have to admit, that there a few things which I see as being a given in these last few races:

Hamilton will make another mistake. His passion and ambition to win (unfortunately) seems to clash with his fellow racers

Alonso will have an element of misfortune, despite putting in 4 more superb displays of driving. This leads me onto

Vettel will have a (self-inflicted) mishap of some sort, most likely with Alonso, which leads to one/both being out of the race

Button will be flawless in the remaining races. I just dont think his car will be where it needs to be to deliver a win

which leaves

Webber wont get flustered. will be ruthless and efficient as he has shown he can be when overtaking, and wont finish any lower than 4th in the remaining 4 races

Of course, all the above is complete conjecture, which may be added to by the weather prospects of Japan / Brazil

I still think the 5 of them will be in contention on the final race though

Some interesting things being said, consider though this:

Hamilton is within 7points of the title leader by the last round.

If that happens the title is going to Lewis if he qualies anywhere near the top 6. By hook or by crook he will thrash that Macca by sheer force of will if he has to to victory. That goes double if its Lewis v Alonso.

So the equation becomes Lewis has to gain 13 points over Webber in 4 races and 9 over Alonso. That is a much more manageable scenario, esp if by the end race you are asking BJ to go rear gunner and take points away.

I think BJ is left hanging by a thread to be honest, Seb screwing him at Spa has buggered his hopes. Give Suzuka his best and if he doesnt put some major points on the board then its rear gunner duties.

I think we are down to a 4 horse race really.

interesting though about Korea, if it does get dropped, that's really bad news for Mclaren and co.
