Airwaves BMW have signed Ben Collins to drive a 3rd BMW for them at the Brands Hatch finale.

I can't help but think of Mansell in the Mondeo a few years back at Donington, win it or bin it.

Will he be allowed to race in an all white suit and helmet though?

Anyone can race in all white suit and helmet if they wanted to, the BBC don't have it copyrighted. So it will be up to him being asked to wear them or deciding to wear them himself. I'm not sure if ITV would want to give the BBC any free advertising for one of it's top shows though.

'Win it or bin it' indicates that you think he could be fast enough to win it? What makes you say this? I don't know much about the guy but from what i've heard his racing record isn't particularly brilliant, he never really climbed all that high on the ladder did he?

I would expect given the lack of experience in the machinery he won't fair all that well, and will probably be quickly nerfed off the track knowing the BTCC.

No "Win it or bin it" is the attitude not the potential result.

Johnny Herbert wasn't that fast, so I doubt Collins will be up at the front either.

He'll be wearing a suit made entirely out of books, probably.

I do hope he does really well. I know of his racing past and he did pretty well anyway.

He will have to carry extra weight as hes entering the championship late on so it will be hard for him to keep up with his team mates, who I rate pretty highly anyway. Will be fun to watch though wink

To be fair that was a FWD Honda which Herbert had never driven before wheres Ben Collins is pretty familiar with RWD

He's raced a lot of different cars and has generally been competitive - he won LMP2 this year. Be interesting to see how he gets on in the bump and bang world of the BTCC but I wish him all the best. Be cool if he pulls off a good result.

I rated Kaney up until he turned up for a team track walk at Donny wearing a pair of full length lycra running bottoms... hehe

If you're having a wander around the Porsche paddock come and introduce yourself! I'll be in the Motorbase awning with the 48 car, pick the large person who you would least expect to be a racing driver and it'll most likely be me!

Thank you very much - I most certainly will do!

Did you race with Ted and Ed at the Snetterton 2CV 24 hours a few years ago?

Ah ok - I can't remember exactly the name, but "Wookie" rang a bell. Not to worry!

I'd have thought David Bartrum was the largest person likely to be wandering around the motorbase awings ?!?
