Britcar 2010 results

An enjoyable weekend as a punter for me, I'm always amused by the eclectic array of motors Britcar attracts.
Disappointed that none of the stands within view of the scoreboard was open and most of the food stalls were shutting for the night at 1830 with the staff bundling into a minibus whose driver was shouting "'urry up, X-factor is starting in 5mins".
Also. Whilst one is heartened by the food concessions are now aiming for slightly higher than the lowest quality fare, the resultant prices meant that the meagre £5.00 in my pocket this morning could not afford me a beef burger merely a cup of coffee (proper espresso though) and some lukewarm chips.

£5? At silverstone your lucky to have got some coffee for that!I spent the weekend with the MJC Ferrari team, an extraordinary experience, being witness to a triumph, of hardwork, skill and talent, being able to listen to an amazing group of people, at the top of their game, one I'll never forget, and some of it in video I hope they'll think worth it.

I guess the bacon sandwich with egg this morning hadn't set you on your way!! The Cafe (behind the pits) would have taken cards..

There are plenty of cars out there that can beat a Mosler, but very few teams run in the top class in Britcar and it is a very cost effective way to go racing. We pondered running Sean and Michael's '09 GT2 Ferrari, but the cost would've been massive (Le Mans last year cost a lot of money in parts and rebuilds) so the Mosler offered the best value.

end of the day, almost *any* car could do well in the 24, it's not about speed per say, it's about having a clean run, that's by far the hardest challenge, no point in being 5 sec's a lap faster than everybody if you can't maintain that pace without stopping every hour (or less) and dealing with breakdowns, 10 minutes unscheduled stop time takes several hours to regain, if at all.Weslake-Monza said:
Almost "any car" might win but didn't. Moslers have won two or is three Britcar 24hrs so might be seen as the fancied car. I like diversity in motorsport and if a different type of car wins each year that makes for unpredictable and interesting motorsport.
records don't reflect that though do they?2005 - Mosler, Porsche, Porsche
2006 - BMW Z4, BMW M3, BMW M3
2007 - BMW Z4, Mosler, Porsche
2008 - Porsche, Aston N24, Aston N24
2010 - Ferrari 430, Porsche, Porsche
so, in 5 races, Moslers only won 1, BMW is the only car to win more than once.
Having just got home from marshalling the 24 in the pits..
the Devine stand behind the pit office (by the dunlop trucks) was open from 8am on the saturday until race finish on the sunday...
My tea (burger and chips) with assistance from Mr Tucker @ devine went down very well - the paddock cafe was also reasonable and food was pretty good for this sort of venue (closed at 11pm opened at 6am)... I know some of my fellow pit marshals indulged in a mindnight feed from devine..
It was a really good race, with the no 22 porsche being narrowly beaten by the no8 ferrari, lots of more normal metal made it through the event and the one thing about the weather was that it meant the smaller lower powered cars could keep up more with the more special metal - especially in the twisty parts of the circuit - on the straights tho the power difference even in the rain shone through.. The black Golf GTI ran through the race with no problems (well a bust engine mount) and ended 27th .. a mates 993 managed 40th after 3.5 hours of frantic repairs after accident damage.
The folks in orange (and black) love britcar as we are looked after and our efforts are appreciated both by britcar itself (thanks James) and the teams themselves - no matter how big it's getting it still has a really good and friendly atmosphere - roll on next year ;-)

exactly the point, a 6 hour race is nothing like a 24 in terms of what's required to win it.No question, the Mosler's are fast, you only have to look at any GT series where they are allowed to run, but, that are not the de-facto-winning car for a 24H IMHO
Statistically, I would suggest Porsche or BMW would be the prime choice.
