If there are any on here I would just like to give huge thanks to the marshals who give their time to make this possible.
My special thanks to the guys who risked life and limb to push me out of a gravel trap mid race in the wee hours (don't know which corner it was cos I couldnt see a bloody thing) but very big thanks echoed I am sure by all teams.

I was marshalling down at Vale and comments like that really make up for the time and effort (which actually was one hell of a lot!) that we put in.

We had about 28 incidents over the weekend and managed to move a majority of them. Most also without the aid of the safety car.

But once again thanks to you guys for one helluva race and for actually being quite sensible in those awful conditions!

A Big thank you to all you guys, I think we had a few close ones and a Marcos hit me up the arse at club at about 02.30 hrs but as none of us could see a bloody thing it came as no surprise !! You guys did a great job keeping us all safe and running I guess we were lucky not to need your services in terms of dragging us out of somewhere we shouldn't have been but knowing you were on hand is a great boost to our confidence particularly in conditions such as they were.

A big thanks to you all

Porsche 996 GT3 car no: 42 Azteca/Hawthorns Neil Garner run car. finished 1st in class 3 and 3rd overall somewhat unbelievably bounce

Robin 54... If you were at Vale then you probably pushed me in the little Lotus Elise no82 out of the gravel at about 9pm in the rain. I locked the brakes and slid into the edge of the gravel going into the 90 degree left hander (I think that's Vale; I just think of ot as the corner I always have trouble with my braking point, especially if it's pouring with rain and dark!), right in a horrible spot where the next bloke to do the same would have been right into me. Brilliant effort and huge thanks.

One of your colleagues also got to our Lotus in night quali the day before and put out the fire (snapped bracket on fuel rail = petrol everywhere = large and sudden fire) seconds before the car would have been toast. Without that it would have all been over before we'd even started.

All round cracking job by the marshals who do it all for love.

I would also like to extend that thanks to the Silverstone recovery guys for adding un-necessary damage to certain cars.

What can I say? The marshals did an incredible job all weekend in horrible conditions and they kept on smiling. Hello to those who got a huge fright when they bumped into me trackside at Luffield at 3am when I was attempting some night photography and they had come to the rescue of car 57!

I have a feeling I met the Vale marshal above though as I did some photography down there at lunchtime on Saturday and the SC came out to deal with the standing water.

Without the marshals, there'd be no race. I salute you all!

Whichever one of you had the Saltire on the flagpole at the exit of Abbey, you kept me going :-)

(And I still am very grateful for you giving me a lift to the circuit when out in Dubai. )

Thanks for the support and lift to medical center after being hit at Beckets when we lost our driveshaft and were coasting to a halt. Thanks also for returning the car (43) which we managed to repair in 3 and a half hours and then run without issue to the end .
Having been at the edge of the track I can see why we need to respect the yellows a lot more , the marshalls job is perilous and they are voluteers , so lets slow down more for them especially at night.

I couldn't tell you who it was, visibility so bad it was hard to make out the car type never mind colour or number, thought I saw a rising sun bandanna though, nerd and that would ring true if you had to choose anyone that might attempt an overtake in zero visibility on a 90 degree corner, banzai !!! hehe

Many thanks to them for pushing out the Seat (No. 71) after Ash decided to see if his bumper really would fit nice and snug in a BMW's wheel arch (it doesn't). They kindly checked the car would still roll in a straight line after dragging it out before sending Ash back to the garage for a new wishbone thumbup

Shame an ECU/Electrics problem stopped us around midnight for good, but I salute them for putting themselves at great risk to keep the race flowing.

Indeed that was ourselves, we could see lights but couldn't see why you were there until we got right out to you to see you in the worlds smallest gravel trap!

Glad to be of service!

There were some 'jobs worths' being silly but you will always get that at any circuit!

As one of the many marshals at Siverstone over the weekend it is nice to know that our efforts do not go un-noticed, thank you for your compliments. Congratulations to all the teams that completed the event I hope we can all do it again next year (without the rain).

As a (very) long term member of the Silverstone Marhals Team I am concerned to see allegations that cars were damaged while being retrieved during the race and would like to assure all competitors that any additional damage is accidental but often is caused by weak and poorly fitted towing eyes. While it may be adequate on tarmac the loads imposed on the towing eye in a water logged gravel trap are substantially increased, something that appears to us over looked at the "design" stage and in the quest for lightness.

The only issue I saw was the fact that some of the lowloaders don't come "right off" the back so giving a very low loading angle like the ones the RAC/AA etc. use for sports cars.

They had great fun getting one of the Porsche's off, and after it nosediving into the pit surface on the first attempt, the team had to resort to two wheel dollies under the front wheels (it was on backwards), which collapsed on the first go sending the front of the car onto the pit tarmac/concrete once again. Third time and it was off but not without a large amount of scraping and the sight of some rather bent plastic/metal.

I can only imagine the Porsche was just as unhappy being pulled onto it in the first place, certainly the splitter looked a bit unhappy, but that could have been as part of the accident (after all the night lamps were rather flopping around and the front wheels weren't exactly straight...)

Still, to counter that, the 'crane' lorry that picked up the Chevron seemed to have done a good job, with them using the whole rear rollbar/subframe. It meant it was rather unbalanced (as the pivot point was just in front of the engine), but it came down nice and straight after a few team members jumped on the front of it.

I'm sure it would be nice to have a spanking new fleet of 'full off' low loaders, but there has to be a cost to that...
