Depends on the application, what you are securing and how often you need to access it.
Rivnuts are ok, but I often have to replace the ali ones because the threads are easy to damage, or you get a bit of corrosion and the bolt seizes in them, causing the rivnut to rotate and not undo.
Captive or floating nuts are more reliable and secure, but more expensive. The floating ones are great as it gives you a bit of leeway in lining everything up

When you solid mount your engine and gearbox you tend to threadlock everything. At which point the ali rivnut isn't really an option anymore.
The captive anchor nut that you attach to panels with two small rivets, the pictures of which didn't appear, are self locking and don't vibrate free. All my honeycomb floors are attached with them and I've not had a single bolt come undone.

Only thinking of holdng on panels or small ancillaries like header tanks.
Just off at a tangent, do you have any issues with aluminium blocks and gearbox casings cracking when solid mounted?

My chevy block is ally and load bearing but it's a spread rail block and so beefier than normal. No problems so far Just off at a tangent, do you have any issues with aluminium blocks and gearbox casings cracking when solid mounted?

Use a washer on the back of the rivnut so that the nut crimps against the washer on the rearsurface of the panel. Then you won't have any pull through issues. You will need to get someone to keep the washer flat against the inner surface of the panel though.Regards
