talking to a mate who is into his rallying, he got onto talking about Kris Meeke, told him I've always thought I recognised him from somewhere else other than TV, one thing leads to another and then the penny drops, he was the guy that beat me in a 106 challenge event in 2000, bought for me by my wife for my birthday, never even gave it a second thought as an ongoing leap into motorsport at the time, I was just having a laugh hehe

this event seems to have been the beginning of his career eek weird how something so trivial in my life became such I big turning point for him.

after 10 years I remember hehe

not really anything that important to anyone but thought I'd share anyway, my claim to fame biggrin

when you say he beat you... i take that is an understatement. By how many minutes were you behind at the end. If you were within 15 mins, you could have made it as a no2 driver in the stobart team.

difficult to remember exactly as it was 10 years ago and not very significant to me at the time but from memory I beat him on 2 events, the mercedes skid control (jacked up on frame) and the Caterham autocross test, I was crap on the actual Rally part in the 106 and didn't do as well as I could have on the track part of Silverstone but he by no means walked it.

There were four groups on the day with each group partaking in a different discipline and rotating accordingly, he was not in my group but in the group in front of us, I was the quickest in my group & I was told my times were the fastest of the day (so far) when I finished the two events I mentioned, at the end of the day results were given & I was chuffed to find I was still the quickest in those 2 events hehe (sorry, reliving it nowbiggrin)

I'm now thinking though that this event might have been one of several qualifiers where all the winners battled it out later on in a grand finale?

nevertheless I still gave him a run for his money on this day, if only I'd been more serious and tried harder, damn! just like my school report hehe

I'd much rather be doing what I'm doing now though so the best man for the job definitely won yes
