You have got to love Alonso.
Discussion
Alonso has talked like this for a while. It's one of the things I haven't liked that about him for a while. He was cocky in '05 and '06, and then last year he even had the balls to say his '08 Singapore race still counted as a win. I'm not a fan of unmeasured, over-confident statements from sportsmen/women. Some feel that sporting accomplishments somehow compensate for being a jerk. However, I don't think you can take accomplishments from one column and have them compensate for failures of a different kind in another column. I can see how this headline irks, especially if it's coming from a rival team. But he did qualify his statement, and then backtracked a bit when he said that, with five drivers in the championship, the competition was still wide open. Of course, some of the problem is due to how journalists couch these things.

ive posted plenty about my thoughts on Alonso. However, in the context of the question he was asked, his response cannot be disputed. And, as much as im not keen on the way he acts, his driving skills and ability to win are superb.
Id love Button or Hamilton to win the WDC, Webber being my next choice. However, right now, heading into the next race, The Spaniard is on a crest of a wave.
He is going to be mighty hard to beat!

I guess it's something that's caught on from the US (most juvenile humour come from there) and hopefully will pass with time, either that or Pistonheads forum interface needs to lock the content of previous posts when one quotes them. ETA I dislike Alonso too and would hate to see him win the WDC.

I cannot watch Alonso on video, he is on pretty primitive level. Also Hamilton is convincingly better driver than him, so he better stops acting as some kind of superstar.
I am sorry, I think Hamilton is easily one of the best drivers out there and one of the best racers too, b**ls out racing at it's finest. But there is no way I could say he is a convincingly better driver than Alonso. I wish I could !Jasandjules said:
