looks an interesting race weekend, lack of track knowledge will be a leveller, so im going kobayashi banzai style to 6th, massa 5th, vettel 4th, jenson 3rd, hamilton 2nd, webber 1st.

I guess they couldn't cancel it - as long as there's a track, kerbs, barriers and a press centre - though expect that some drivers will be late getting back to the grid for the start as they'll only be one toilet for them to share.

Will team orders be used ... Perhaps Massa will finally be a number 1 in the team

it takes about 10 laps max to learn a circuit for a decent F1 driver, plus they will all have driven it in simulators.

They've all driven it on their simulators, but remember the tarmac hasn't been driven on yet. So the track will actually be settling as it's driven on, it might go lumpy and bumpy, it might start breaking up, and it's going to be incredibly dusty. They are going to have very little idea of where the grip is from session to session which will be really interesting.

i agree, but i don't regard it as a leveller.

7-8-9 and 12-13-14 will be strong for Red Bull, but I think they're just going to get monstered down those straights.

Having had a quick go on it on F1 2010 I'm going to go with Alonso, Webber, Hamilton top 3.

Mclarens should be strong here. Long straights and Webber has already said they will be vulnerable to an attack on the first lap because of Mclaren superior F duct and top speed

Reading a few postings this morning - does anyone know about tarmac behaviour?

How long does it take to "cure"? As the top layer will be leaching out oil for some weeks/months - is this a risk - or will it just make it a very low grip surface compared to a matured track? Is there a risk of it breaking up?

It takes 12 months for a track to settle - but that of course is normal.

No problem for him with the points lead he has....3rd will be fine as long as no DNF's in the remaining 2 after.

not sure how long the surface has been down for already but its biggest issue will be the fact its not been used for any motorsport in anger as yet.

i wouldnt imagine it would break up - am assuming that this question formed part of the general inspection - but it might well offer up some anomalies in braking zones and certain corners e.g. localised settlement, small cambers forming. Over the course of a race, with the fuel load decreasing, this could lead to a few errors/mistakes being made.

All good for entertainment though!

I think rippling in the braking zones is usually a problem on new surfaces.

Watched that just before coming in here to see if someone else had posted it. Two things struck me as unrealistic, at no point did they take each other out and the front wings didn't seem to be flexing.

Circuit looks like an Istanbul/Valencia/Abu Dhabi mix up to me, and I seem to recall Red Bull being strong at all those tracks! I think Mclaren will be a lot closer than they were in Suzuka though.

As well as the question mark over the tarmac, it will be interesting to see how the tyre compounds react to the new track surface throughout the weekend as the circuit rubbers up.

that's a rather odd comment? Yes, they had a box issue, they will have changed it, where's the issue going forward?
