F1 goes to Russia in 2014 (or maybe 2015)

I reckon the "European" GP and Bahrain should be the first to go.

I suppose it has to cater to the Global marketplace, but it seems to be losing touch with its roots; I suppose I'm too damn old,but I generally think of F1 has having a very strong European base, and the corporatization, with a single track designer and the requirement for massive government investment, is making it feel more like a sort of automotive olympics.
I wonder if there is ever again going to be room for some kind of championship series that fits above club racing and below F1 where there is much more room for privateers,outside of the auspices of the FIA?.....probably not......

Turkey will be dropped for Sochi. Currentlty the city is a major beachside resort for Russians, well those not in Monte Carlo and London. There are dozens of hotels but with the Olympics going there I can see why bernie wants to do a deal. Whether any Russians will go is a different matter, because outside of Sochi there is little in the way of population and visas etc are a nightmare.

I agree in many ways, I see it as a European sport with a global reach, but they are losing sight of this very quickly. They also need a radical change in circuit design as you only have to play F1 2010 to realise how many of the tracks are similar to each other. Oh well at least they're keeping Spa, Monaco and Silverstone, it just wouldn't be F1 without those 3

I'm pleased you feel that way. For me the F1 season has over saturated the calender. This year I'm watching less and less.More does not necessarily equal better. In my mind there's nothing "Grand" about processional racing which clogs up getting on for half the weekends of the year.
you have to say the future isnt looking too rosy for Spa following last years debacle. Will be a terrible shame to lose that track though.
Sadly, as dull as some of them are, the likes of Bahrain etc would, i imagine, bring in more revenue than the European races do. This in itself is enough to keep them on the calendar.

How long before its a 2yr championship taking in 40 tracks so Bernie can visit all his 3rd world friends?
