Griffith Door

After collecting Billy Thompson's car at Lodge last Sat, my Griffith needs a replacement driver's (RH) door + lock mechanism. Does anyone know of a TVR breaker in London, SE or SW or indeed happens to have one for sale?

Thanks Andy + for the tape to paper over the cracks before I went out for Race 2 on Sat. I have not seen Rockers on TV, as AMGTV has not yet loaded it onto its website for us non-Sky paupers to view. I had thought it was only a week/10 days after the Ch 413 showing so don't know why it is still not on.

Bell Hill Garage doesn't have a driver's door, but TVR Dean (Ashington Northumbria mob)does at £250 for a complete one! Anyone got another idea - I gather the target price is £200 and I even have a spare bonnet to trade!

I suppose you could try Douglas Valley Breakers but they are rip off merchants. I'd be having a go at repairing it Richard.

Easily enough for Andy to repair. Two chunks approx 4"x4" and 6"x6" and a load of cracks and no doubt crazing by now. A bit of backing and it may even just need P40. The rear quarter damage may need a bit more looking at as the impact appeared to have de-laminated a previous repair as the arch joins the "parcelshelf"

drop the door off then and we can get that sorted ... get some pics of the body damage to me, and We'll quote.. would obviously need the car here to sort though

Thanks guys for all your advice but I think I shall have to bite the bullet and get a replacement door. There is a 6x4" hole in the door, 2x 12" tears diagonally forward from the hole + the impact punched the lock mechanism straight into the car, so I think a repair might be tricky to align with the door catch on the rear wing upright.
Oh well that's motor racing - I was planning on re-spraying the car anyway!

...technically I removed the door mechanism, I'll check but im fairly certain its a generic FoMoCo or GM unit readily availible from scrap yards. The door is repairable Richard - trust me!

Thanks Andy and yes - I hope to take the door off this weekend and have a couple of local guys quoting me for a complete car re-spray + fibreglass repairs.

OK, making some progress on quotes for repairs, but does anyone know where I can buy Griffith fibreglass body sections? In addition to the driver's door, I really need the panel from the driver's side rear wheel-arch forward to the door return and from sill to door handle. It's such a complicated shape and I have nothing there to give it shape - I either need that section or a mould of it to be able to glass in.

Adrian is central TVR, Julian (fiberon) does all the panels.

OK, am collecting the door from Sportmotive in Stoke on Saturday for a reasonable price, but what I don't understand (and I guess that Kevin Gore should be a past master at this) is how do you reconcile the difference between chopping a section out of a wrecked Griffith (relatively expensive and in my case the panel forward from the driver's side wheel arch - a relatively complicated shape) v. taking a hot mould from a sound Griffith to get the shape you need.
The alternative seems to me to be shaping the outer panel in very thin ply to get the basic shape and building the rest from there.
P.S. - good to hear that Billy has problems too from our little coming together at Lodge! ! !
