Further to the other post on here about "what to watch on the 30th October"; whilst talking on other matters, I asked Marc Haynes of Bute Motorsport, who organises the GT Cup and GT Trophy, for his comments on the aforementioned post - he gave me the following response:

"I'm full of admiration for JT’s (Britcar) achievements and think the move to MSA National status and minimum race duration of 3 hours is a fantastic thing for Britcar and also Bute Motorsport as it sets out a clear differentiation between the various GT series.
The GT Cup Championship will remain a twin race sprint distance GT Championship and the GT Trophy a GT Series for two driver of any license grade with races BELOW 2 hours duration.

What we should be doing is working together to bring more people into the sport; and it's madness that both of us are running a night race on 30th Oct. I’m keen to coordinate with Britcar over 2011 dates to ensure that both have ample opportunity to maximise our grids'.

Top Man Andy.
I compete in the GT cup and also do the occasional Brit car event, I had to make a decision this year regarding going to Spa for a round of the GT cup or doing the 24hr.
I wanted to do both but the timings where just crazy.
The result of deciding to do the 24hr and not go to Spa cost me several places in the GT Cup championship.
I am glad that you have spoken to Marc, I just hope that all parties can work together for the benefit of the competitors and spectators alike.

In today’s climate its plain crazy to go head to head with these two great series competing for the same type of competitors.

I even had a crazy thought about an end of season Britcar V GT Cup / Trophy race in the same way they used to run the old trans Atlantic trophy for bikes.
Don’t know if this would ever work but it would be a blast, and make for very interesting racing.

Good response and hopefully a compromise for 2011 will happen, as I would usually go to both these races if they hadn't been on the same weekend.

As it is I have decided on Britcar and Donington for the simple reason that this is the only track I haven't been to this year...plus if the race doesn't live up to expectations I am sure Steve Britcar will give me a full refund ;-).

Well as usual nothing seems to have changed...... I noticed that the GT cup Spa event and the Britcar 24 hr event are on the same weekend AGAIN in 2011.
There really is no excuse for this as the 24hour is now fixed for the next 5 years.

CRAZY...... AGAIN

I suspect that has more to do with limited slots available for Spa, rather than deliberate or bad planning.. Slots for SPA fill up very quickly... we're on the reserve list for a race slot that weekend at Spa, and considering trying to book a 2012 slot already...
