BBC f1 coverage switch to bbc2...crap or what?

Had to record the race today like many people only to find that the bbc in their inifinte wisdom decided to switch the f1 coverage to bbc2 and put andrew frigging marr on instead...
why couldnt they just switch andrew marr to bbc and be done with it?
Is this giving license payers real value?
Anyone else a bit narked?

It just goes to show that no matter how many alternatives a broadcaster gives to viewers, there will always be some who find that the broadcast was flawed in some way or other.

So, due to events in Korea resources on scheduling would be challenged, and a specific programme would be extended by around 90 minutes. A difficult decision was made by an individual or individuals in the understanding that any decision or no decision at all would lead to various consequences for various individuals.
Someone had to make a difficult decision, no doubt challenged on the wisdom, but a call was made. For some people this would be a bit of a pain. THe good news is that coverage continued live, on a terrestrial channel, a seperate digital channel, on the internet and on a digital radio station. The repeated coverage would be unaffected. Some elements of the iplayer coverage would be affected, but ultimately the whole broadcast would be made available there too.
Inevitably some will not find this sufficient. With all the conflicting pressures on resources I'm glad it wasn't my decision to make, but the World's still spinning for me.

get the facts right the full broadcast isnt on the red buttton, only crappy highlights. And even if they were, you might have to watch 2 hours before you get back to the point that you last watched it on sky+ !! Like the OP states, they could easily have put Andrew Marr on BBC2 and left the F1 on BBC1, after all, I suspect many more ppl watch F1 then Andrew Marr!

Yep, poor form there. That should have been fixed by now. I bet someone will get a bit of a talking to tomorrow. This caused me to miss a few laps too in the switch from my recording to bbc2 live. I understand it was extraneous circumstances, though and ordinarily I am full of praise for the BBC coverage. Do any of you kids even remember what it was like to have ads in the middle of F1 at ITV?

On another matter, I don't understand why we still have BBC interactive while also having BBC3 and 4 that are only broadcasting half of the day or less.
They should merge 3 and 4 while rebranding one of them as BBC Sport (which is its own brand name already really). There's enough sport on the BBC to fill a channel. Sport overflow can go on BBC1/2/etc as it does now and extra BBC3/4 shows can fill the space left on BBC1/2.
Maybe they're waiting for the complete analogue switch off.

I can't believe the re-run will be entirely as broadcast originally for fairly obvious reasons (not giving away much there, I hope).
Since the dawn of blanket live TV coverage of F1 (which actually only goes back to the 1990s), delays caused by accidents and/or weather have always messed up carefully planned TV schedules.
I have to say, with the current BBC set up, F1 fans have never had so much choice and alternative ways to watch their F1. Just be grateful that we now have these alternatives and thank your lucky stars that you aren't living in the 1970s or 80s or having to put up with ITV.

I understand all the arguments above but it really shouldn't be that hard to make it work. I press a button on a high tech piece of kit to record a program, if things change it can't be beyond technical capabilities to make the system change to suit.
With other things I press buttons and expect them to do as instructed so I see no reason why Sky+ should be any different and I don't think I'm expecting too much or asking for the impossible here either. Series link works perfectly on other things so don't know if it's Sky or the BBC that need to sort things out but between them they should be able to make it work.

I now have to watch the F1 forum to see all the highlights of the Key 1Hr of the race I have missed through your bizarre programming methods.
So now when I get to see the re-run at 2pm to see the 1 hour I missed I know what has happened!
Why oh Why didn't you just shovel Marr's depressing politics show to BBC2. Its not as if anyone with a life wastes their Sunday watching that!
