I just caught the end of last years race.

They've just started the 1980 GP.

Interlagos was a bit different back then. Maybe even better than it is now. Alot faster certainly!

Imagine the speed of that first turn in a modern F1 car. I reckon it would be very close to flat out, but not quite.

It would be a very fast circuit. The current version is one of my favourites on the calender, but I think I would prefer the old one.

No. Spa is the only one that comes to mind as having at least not been ruined by it.

I agree.

Possibly the latest permutation of Silverstone is the best layout since the major changes of the early 1990s.

Monaco after the tunnel was built is fun - '73?
Few chicanes have been re-profiled but they haven't really neutered the insanity of the place. Improved the spectacle with the transition through the tunnel and arguably made it harder. One could argue that the tunnel development was outside of teh control of F1.

Indy as a modernisation to allow F1 cars to run effectively at he circuit but that is a little pedantic of me.

And it's not really an F1 track - apart from the one off race of 1993.

Monaco has always had a tunnel (watch the movie Grand Prix to see the old tunnel in use).

The old tunnel took the road under the railway station. It was removed and replaced by the more familar version (which technically isn't a tunnel - more an underpass) when the hotel was built on the old station site.

I think the full original layout at Interlagos is too long according to current FIA regulations IIRC but watching the footage from 1980 have to say it would be awesome to see the cars going round that first banked corner!

if you read the comments it was part of some film in the 80's but it can't be because the new Lows Hotel was built which created that tunnel and Fangio would of been in his 80s !

The film might have been shown on TV in the 80s but the footage is probably mid to late 1950s. It looks like he's driving one of the Lancia D50/Lancia Ferrari cars whih Ferrari infamously chopped up when he was finished with them.

Lowes Hotel was completed in time for the 1973 GP, which was when the new style tunnel was in place as well as the re-routed track around the swimming pool and into the new Rascasse Hairpain (which replaced the old Gasworks Hairpin.
