Eddie - The voice of F1?

IMO BBC have done a great job in coverage of the F1, with the exception of J.L. commentary team hit the spot. One point I would like to make Eddie never seems to add anything to the pre quali / race coverage, his points of view seem off the wall at he seems to ramble for the sake of saying something into his microphone.?

He uses his air time to brown nose people mostly. I don't mind him though, sometimes he has good input.

He's a good laugh. Everyone knows he rambles and fails to succinctly put his point across all too often, but he's not afraid to ask the difficult questions like "why did you do rubbish" where Jake will tippy toe around doing the "Mr BBC wavey ipad I wish I was james bond" thing, and DC will too frequently swing into Red Bull PR manager mode. I think he does a lot more than he gets credit for, and for all the nonsense he talks and the ego he's got, he's also got a lot of experience and knowledge and makes a good double act with DC - they bounce off each-other well.

I think he does a great job of keeping it light hearted and asking super-blunt questions with no care for the awkward moment.

I thin it's useful to have the viewpoitn of an ex team manager. He sometimes puts accross the unpopular view that managers sometimes have to take.

Drivers are much like we are as fans - they want an exciting race, they want to go faster and they want races decided on track. Team managers have to get the job done - no more, no less. EJ offers that insight, even if we don't want to hear it.

+1 Agreed..He`s great, He`s been around old Eddie & is a respected figure & all that but he`s also really funny without trying to be... the chemistry or the mis-match there-of, with DC is extra fuel for great telly....

The sweat-patch crisis the poor chap suffered for example was simply priceless....

Love EJ, ying and yang with DC, they play off each other like Abbott and costello
Great team IMHO, with Jake the everyday bloke, alightly scared but having such fun with his new "mates", true or not it's as beleivable as some of the crap i enjoy watching, more actually cos there's cars and "stuff" as well

EJ has grown on me massively over the last two years, he adds so much colour to the show, whether he's being an idiot or not, and it's sometimes interesting to a different or slightly eccentric view on things. Especially considering that Coultard is starting to get a litte boring, it's only really when Eddie trys to push his buttons he gets entertaining.

I like him because of the great contrast with DC. I cant stand to watch any of his single pieces though. It is of mild amusement to see how many times he can mention anything to do with his team.

At least DC now just laughs at some of EJ's more controversial comments, whereas when the 2 of them first started I thought they would start pummelling each other on air.

He's a plank on his own, but he adds to the show. It would be poorer without him.

I wouldn't say he has grown on me, but he has changed his approach. From an out and out bullstting liar to a mildly annoying brown noser. Yesterday during the grid walk and post race was just cringingly embarrassing. But he’s harmless and is someone Jake can feed DC lines to in order to take the piss out. Leave him there for next year but stick him in a clown suit and dunces cap and wheel him around on a comedy undersized bicycle. At least then the people he sticks the microphone in front of are clearly forewarned what to expect…

Bad: DM managed to only say 5 words. Eddie said about 50. Let them fking talk.

I find him pretty obnoxious and rude. He talks over people, he talks crap and he's totally arrogant.

I really think the BBC have done a superb job with F1, they really, really don't need Eddie though. He makes out that he can get any interview but, tbh, I'd imagine there are a hundred better people who could do that.
