Spent a brilliant day with BRD - the people who build these simulators. Naturally, I have never driven a F1 car for real, but these simulators are awesome. A few laps and I was exhausted. The controls and physics are precise, accurate, and TBH frightening. BRD build these for the F1 teams, so expect some serious equipment. You will not find better.
I'm going in the next few weeks - I will report back!
I've been to Sim Racing quite a bit, down near Eastleigh. The driving position doesn't suit me at all, so I've stopped going now, but the guy running it's a top bloke and it's a great setup he's got down there. Very popular, with lots of times to beat and lots of regulars to get to know. Recommended.

I live just round the corner from Puretech and have visited a few times now (much to the detriment of my wallet).
Its a cracking bit of kit which uses netkar pro as its software base with a tailor made F1 car, made for them by another company I believe.
First time I did a 15 min session I was suffering from motion sickness as it does chuck you around a fair bit (think bruises if you don't pull the belts tight enough) but since then I've not felt rough and I've got down to times close to the GP2 drivers that seem to regularly go in there.
Its pricey and I didn't think their membership package was that great value for money but no doubt I will visit again soon. Would love to get into one of their leagues but again, the cost just puts me off a bit.

The PTR simulators generally stay horizontal. They move freely in the XY plane and also rotate, but they don't go up and down much. This is totally consistent with open wheeled racing - unless you do a Webber on Kovalainen.
I've been to PTR several times now (lap time down in the 1.02s 
), the sims are excellent fun and will want you going back for more. The price is a bit prohibitive but when you consider how slick the whole operation is, it's not too bad. My mate is one of the instructors there - gets paid in sim time
