Best atmosphere of any GP I've ever been to.
On TV the races are generally a bit dull. Of course when you're there what matters is noise, crowd excitement, locale and so on. You get as close to the cars as at Monaco except they go a little quicker and the backdrop at night is something else.

With some careful planning the weekend in Monaco only costs £300 (incl Flights, hotel, race tickets, hire car + petrol, and train for race day!) Not including booze or food...

Total costs were £600, but that was split between 2 people (i.e. £300 each)...
Don't get me wrong, it's like budget-tours.com compared to how most people 'do Monaco'. But it was awesome all the same! Watch out for the £15 pints of Lager in Cafe de Paris!!!
Spectating was from the general admission area by Tabac corner (zone Z1 was £100 per ticket) with a good view of the harbour). The other main cost was the hotel which was about 45 mins up the coast by train into Italy (In San Remo IIRC).
Cheap return flights (London to Milan) with sleazy jet were about £60 per person and the hire car for the weekend was about the same... Other cost was the train ticket which was about a tenner! Bargain!!!
It took a fair bit of planning and 4 hour motorway drive from Milan to San Remo is definitely less glamorous than stepping of the plane in Nice (but those flights on race weekend are in excess of £500!)

Yep, went 2009. Expensive for a weekend. Stay at the Fullerton if you want to be close to the circuit. Goto the zoo for the night safari and make sure you pop into Orchard Towers for a drink (or Paramount if you're feeling brave). 
Book a suite overlooking the hairpin. Gives you access to the bar over the road next to Forlino too with unlimited champagne. Invite a few friends to join you on the balcony of your room on the proviso they supply nothing less than Krug. I won't tell you what room number has the best view because I haven't yet secured it again for next year's race.Orchard Towers for a drink LOL - just make sure the pretty girl that sits down next to you is a girl....
Oh and well worth visitng Equinox for an unparalled view of the city. I was in and out in 3 days this year, so didn't have a chance to check out the view from the new Marina Bay Sands hotel - by all accounts the rooms are dull but the view from the top is superb...
