F1 Overtakes 2010

I know not many people follow or believe in these rankings but genuine facts and it suprised me!

Funny... I've been putting together a little YT vid for all the best moves of 2010, the same as I did for 2009.

Of 41 overtakes taken from some 120 televised passes, Sutil doesn't feature once. In fact Alguersuari has 3, Rubens and Massa 1. Alonso, the only consistently decent overtaker on this list, has about 8 passes in there, the rest of the drivers on that list don't feature at all... except in being overtaken.

Probably goes to show how little of the whole story stats tell.

Massa beat kobayashi and hamilton?
No Way!

Matt, along with your excellent Youtube reviews of F1 (must say I really enjoyed your hamilton overtake vieos,) could you muster up a kamui kobayashi video?

Specifically abu dabi/ brazil last year, along with his excellent drives in valencia (whizzing past alonso in the dying laps was brilliant fun!) And, not forgetting his chinese gp - bonzaiiii!!!

After hamilton, I found him very exciting to watch.

Sutil and Liuzzi only feature because of their dreadful qualifying in a car which should have been higher on the grid than it was. So overtaking the cars around them in a better car was always going to create passes. In much the same way that those consistently at the sharp end of the grid have fewer people to overtake.

I wonder how many of Alonso's 31 overtakes, were from Monaco, where he started last.

Surely as a metric, number of overtakes in a season is an index of driver underperformance or poor reliability in qualifying?

I understand that. But starting last in a top 3 car.... I seem to remember him overtaking lots of slower cars shortly after the tunnel exit.

As someone above says, it's not really a measure of anything other than poor qualifying performance.

In answer to your question: 4 televised. The Virgins and Lotuses. (Not sure about HRT). After that, the pitstops started to happen.

I've seen that vid, but it's a tad shyte.
Video quality is awful and the music is annoying, very annoying.
Plus they spend way too long getting the "I'm-on-Camera" opinions of the other bunch.

Could you wave your magic wand around (i.e. spend a few hours of your own time,) and create a proper kobayashi top10 vid?

More or less. It could also be as a result of a major cock-up at the start or in a pit stop. If the grid was random then it would be fine, but the whole point of qualifying is to reduce the number of overtaking manoeuvres.
