Formula 1 World Champion 2011.

As you all know I am a mad F1 fan and blogger, I have rubbed shoulders with all my F1 heros, thanks to GOODWOOD and some friends also. Having such a brilliant season last year was what the sport needed. 5 men gunning for the championship, with 3 men in the final race with a sporting chance of winning. I went for Mark Webber, if I knew he had a broken should, I would have gone with Alonso! Yes at that time no one would have thought that Vettel had any chance of winning the championship, even if he did win the race. Win he did and win both he did. He is a worthy champion just like Jenson Button was the year before.
This year we see new rules, how do you think this will change the racing, should we have rules changes like this every year? My biggest question for you all is this. Who is your money on for 2011?

Mine is Mark Webber. He will be very hungry for the wins and to snatch the crown back from his team mate, let me remind you, no love lost between those to. Also Vettel should now be more relaxed then ever having done what he wanted to do the year before. Jenson and Lewis ,a strong team combination, will also want the crown. Will Massa be strong enough this year, or has his accident ruined his career. Alonso will also want to win for Ferrari, one of the most loved drivers by the Tifosi fans.

Out of this I still say Mark will give everything this year, wanting this before he retires, lets face it he is now one of the elder statesmen in the field.

So who do you want to see life the crown this year?

Hopefully it's going to be a really close again.
my choice is Mark webber for the drivers and McLaren for the constructors.

With the Mercedes boys getting mixed into the action more.

Last year on January 17th I put £40 on Vettell to win the WC......

This coming year, I'm leaning towards Alonso, Vettell or Hamilton.

Depends on the cars really.

Massa can't compete with Alonso
Button can't compete with Hamilton
Webber can't (won't) compete with Vettel
Schumacher can't compete with Rosberg

So if Ferrari have the best developments - Alonso
if RedBull have the best developments - Vettel
if McLaren have the best developments - Hamilton
if Mercedes have the best developments - Rosberg

Closest driving pairing is at Redbull though...

IMO and from history, it seems only Alonso and Hamilton can compete if they don't have the best car, so either of them basically!

Gut feeling - Alonso. Fan feeling - Hamilton! Everything being equal - Hamilton every single time.

I just had a hunch and regardless of his driving style, I thought he could do it. He had the car, attitude and for me had proved himself in '09. I don't have the same instinct this year!

I have to say the bookies were fairly quiet on the old Vettel payout front when I picked up my winnings!

8/1 so £320 plus stake back.

I also bet £100 at 8/1 that Schumacher wouldn't last the season.........

I'm not sure talking to anyone at this stage is going to win you any bets!

Bit like the Grand National..... Vettel wasn't even in the running to be honest at the last race, it was Alonso's to lose!

I like your logical analysis, but I don't agree.

The McLaren will be better suited to Button this year so I DO believe he can compete with Hamilton, plus with the McLarens presumably superior KERS system, they should be strong...

Similarly, I expect the Mercedes to be better suited to Schumi so he can compete with Rosberg and the car should be much more competitive this season. If Schumi gets the measure of Rosberg (Possible I think) then it could be a top level career ender for Nico.

The Ferrari should be strong, but it is a one car team. Alonso will get all the support but he is also a more complete driver than Massa. I've never really rated Massa at the top level - he only really challenged strongly in one season and if Kimi had bothered to turn up to half the races that season he would have walked it.

Red Bull will self destruct in 2011. They will expect to be at the front again, Webber won't be allowed to compete and will work against the team, Vettel will implode when he sees the Ferraris and McLarens head off down the road and finds himself fighting against the Mercedes'.

And what of Renault with the Lotus Badge? Kubica has got to be getting seriously miffed at not finding his way into a top flight car and the years are starting to tick by. He'll be out to beat Massa, Webber and either Merc this year in an effort to nick one of their drives. I just hope Renault can give him a good enough car.

Fingers crossed for Barrichello and Williams, but I fear as a team they will lose momentum without a young charger who could beat the elder statesman.

Hopefully Lotus withe the Renault engine can mix it with the midfield this year. I expect them to form a second division with Williams and Force India. Torro Rosso will most likely slip back to race with Virgin and HRT are unlikley to make it more than a couple of races into the season.


My tip for the top? Alonso/Hamilton/Button for a last race finale - anybody's on the day.

Well you got to try! But he is a good chap and has plenty of time for his fans. Wish more of the drivers were like that.

Yeah, you are lucky to get anywhere near the drivers nowadays. I was lucky to get up close to Hamilton/Button, Rosberg and Schumacher at Silerstone this year, more by chance than anything.

Better to follow lower tiers of motorsport if you want a better chance of chatting to the drivers... the BTCC is televised and the drivers still sign autographs. The BTCC support races are even better, you will often find the drivers standing about, and you can sit in the cars if you get lucky.

For the title, it will be between Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso, depending on the speed/reliability of their steeds.
